Hughenden business anticipates CopperString connectivity will boost efficiency and reduce bottom line ___ Aaron Zammit is one of many business owners in Hughenden who’s excited that work has commenced on the $5 billion CopperString 2032 project. Last week’s official sod-turning for the first workforce accommodation camp in Hughenden signalled construction had begun and improved digital connectivity for the town was now a step closer. Mr Zammit didn’t realise how poor the telephone and internet connectivity was in Hughenden until he moved from Townsville and bought a freight business in 2021. “It was an issue from the word go,” he said. The owner of Hughenden Freight and Industrial was forced to upgrade to an expensive satellite service which he says is not ideal. "It turned out to be just another hurdle that regional businesses have to have just to stay semi-connected,” he said. “There’s not a consistent reliable service at the moment, we really need one,” As part of the Powerlink Queensland-led CopperString 2032 project, QCN will deliver vital digital connectivity along the Flinders Highway to supply high-speed internet capacity to workforce accommodation camps, hospitals, schools and councils. QCN will also supply ultra-high speed and high-capacity wholesale backhaul (backbone network) to Internet Service Providers who can offer their customers metropolitan-grade upload and download speeds. “It will allow us to utilise our technology consistently and not have to worry about dropouts, not have to worry about technology,” said Aaron Zammit. “It’s the last thing you want to think about when you’ve got a million other things running along in your business.” Hughenden will host the first CopperString accommodation camp for workers constructing high-voltage powerlines from Mulgrave, south of Townsville, to Mount Isa. The $5 billion CopperString project will connect the North West Minerals Province with the East Coast Electricity Grid, further unlocking the renewable energy potential of Queensland. #ConnectingQueensland #BreakingtheDigitalDivide #Telecommunications

High-speed rail can cross city limits and drive economic uplift like no other infrastructure project. For example, the UK's High Speed 2 (HS2) between London and Birmingham aims to link major cities within 45 minutes by rail – creating a corridor of economic and social opportunity for regional trade and growth. HS2 is proving to be a catalyst for growth, sustainability, and housing even before its completion, generating an estimated 30,835 new jobs within its three impact zones over the next decade. The project also set a new standard for sustainable transportation systems, incorporating cutting-edge technology and real-time sensors to enhance reliability and resilience against climate challenges. Australia could learn from HS2’s success and embrace high-speed rail’s potential for a more connected, sustainable, and prosperous future, particularly with our nation's dispersed geography and susceptibility to the impacts of climate change. #sustainability #rail #transport

🚀 Fiber deployment in Ville de Wavre? It's underway! 📢 This Monday, on place Bosch, the municipal authorities of Wavre and Unifiber launched the deployment of optical fiber in the City of Wavre. 💬 The municipal authorities quickly expressed their interest in this future-oriented network: "An optical fiber network is good news for our citizens, SMEs, and businesses. It's a future solution for our local economy. We increasingly need ultra-performing connectivity in our daily lives, and fiber ensures that. That's why we established this partnership with Unifiber," explains Anne Masson, Mayor of Wavre. 👌 Everything is designed to make the deployment as least impactful as possible. That's why Unifiber has signed an agreement with REW - Réseau d'Energies de Wavre to deploy fiber on their electrical poles. In the municipality, 36% of the network will be aerial, 16% on facades, and 48% underground. In total, 178 kilometers of pink cables will be deployed. 🔋 Four technical cabins (POP) will be installed in the municipality and cover four zones. Once a zone is 80% covered, operators can offer their services to residents. Our schedule plans to open the network in the first zone in June 2025. 🙏 Thanks to the Unifiber teams, especially Laurent Petit, lorenzo Petriello, and Mohamed Abidar, the project manager, and our construction partner Solutions30 Belgium. *Infrastructure Boom* ⚡️ TWE Highlights: 1. Australia is currently experiencing an infrastructure boom, following previous building and resources booms driven by external forces. 2. Major transport projects are often expensive, delayed, and provide dubious economic benefits, with a focus on political gain rather than actual improvement. 3. To make cities better, the key is to get people to travel less, at different times, and in different directions, which can be achieved by promoting remote work, flexible schedules, and utilizing local amenities. 4. Remote work can save money, reduce traffic congestion, and improve overall efficiency without the need for costly infrastructure projects. 5. By implementing these simple strategies, cities can be improved, billions of dollars in wasteful spending can be saved, and resources can be directed towards more meaningful investments. Transport for the North unveils £118 billion plan Transport for the North (TfN) has published an ambitious plan for sustainable and inclusive economic growth in the North, enabled by transformational connectivity. The new Strategic Transport Plan (STP), approved at a TfN board meeting in Leeds, outlines plans for a transformational transport infrastructure that could bring an additional £118 billion to the Northern economy by 2050. Lord McLoughlin, Chair of Transport for the North, said: “Our Strategic Transport Plan sets out Transport for the North’s statutory advice to government on how the North, speaking with one voice, can reach a sustainable, socially inclusive transport network for the future, support growth and employment opportunities. “The STP will lay the foundations for the transport infrastructure investment for the North for decades to come. “The evidence in this STP shows how with sustained investment, the right policy levers and enabling behaviour change, we can truly transform the North.” The new STP builds on the first plan, published five years ago, which set out the case for Northern Powerhouse Rail and led to a step change in government funding for rail. The new plan lays out proposals to transform the North’s transport infrastructure and services further, emphasising the need for better connectivity, linking people to more business and education opportunities. This in turn would enable economic growth and support the decarbonisation of the transport system. https://lnkd.in/e5-FzZbF

#Meridiam is proud that #BlueSuedeNetworks - a Memphis-based fiber-to-the-premises network developer, owned and financed by Meridiam - is partnering with the #CityOfMemphis by designing, building, financing, and managing a citywide #fiber #internetnetwork. Blue Suede Networks’ project will pass at least 85% of all Memphis premises, including at least 85% of low-income residences. Access to high-speed, symmetrical internet is essential to creating #opportunityforall and is critical to reducing America’s #digitaldivide. Today fewer than 25% of Memphians have access to #fiberbroadband. Citywide fiber broadband access promises to transform Memphis into one of the country’s most connected cities and a model for the nation today and for generations to come. Special thanks to #MayorYoung, #CouncilChairSmiley and our partners #Ting, #MemphisTomorrow, #MLGW, #PostRoadFoundation and #MidSouthMinorityBusinessCouncilContinuum. We look forward to a successful partnership building #techequity in the Bluff City. Learn more: https://lnkd.in/gNi-3w3K #DigitalInfrastructure #SustainableInvesting
