What a year 2024 has been, for our organistaion and board, our members and growing network and the wider Queensland community. To each and every member and supporter in 2024 - thank you. If you responded to our research, joined a working group, attended a webinar or event, sponsored or donated to our events, shared your feedback and insight, or were among the hard working volunteer event committees, thank you so much. We’re so pleased you’re all here - part of the RRRW network and we could not have done it without you all. This year we set out to ensure we’re maximising the value we offer our members, through connection, empowerment and inspiration, while securing RRR Women’s viability and sustainability into the future. There is always more work to do, but we’re so proud of what we’ve achieved this year: 🎉More than 150 people attended the Ekka Long Lunch in August, celebrating the first day of the Ekka. We couldn’t have achieved this without our sponsors- R.M Williams, Sugar Research Australia and Queensland Farmers Federation. It was our biggest event in recent years. 🎉We hosted the first ever networking event at the Warwick Rodeo in October, and led an expert panel at our sell-out event at Beef Week in Rockhampton in May, hosted in the Westpac marquee. 🎉We launched the RRR Women Study, to understand the wants and needs of women across the state, and to help us advocate for policy and outcomes on behalf of our members. 🎉We secured a Queensland Government grant to buy Darla, the RRR women car. Give us a toot if you see us in town. 🎉And of course we’ve committed to the return of the RRR Women conference in June 2025 in Rockhampton. We asked our members if you would like us to host conference again and 100% of those who responded overwhelmingly said yes! So we are. And we can’t wait to see you in Rockhampton in 2025! 🎉We renewed a historic Memorandum of Understanding with Georgie Somerset and the team at Red Earth, to deliver a bursary fund to help women attend personal and professional development events. Our past board worked so hard to raise this money and now it’s being invested right back into our members. To read more about the year, see the annual report: https://shorturl.at/gXqEf Thanks again for joining us this year - and see you in 2025.

This Holiday Season, we are thankful for so much - at the top of our list is you, our amazing community who keeps us going. As we head into the next few years, our work is ever important to grow and scale the impact of stakeholder-based business models. If you or your organization would like to contribute to the development and growth of the B Corp movement in Illinois or if you found value from our organization this year and would like to help us grow, please consider donating to https://lnkd.in/gsU_cPyE Due to your incredible support, this year, we: 🟢 Secured a full roster of 7 Board Members, added 4 members to our Advisory Board and premiered our Deputy Board program with the welcome of 2 members. 🟢 Clarified and formalized our purpose, vision, mission, and core activation pillars to support our B Corp community in meaningful ways. 🟢 Streamlined our events strategy to deliver incremental value to our community. Through quarterly events in collaboration with B-Corp partners (thank you Armanino, Arabella Advisors, Pariveda, and Jill Pollack of StoryStudio Chicago for hosting) we organized panel discussions, workshops, and networking opportunities that furthered the education, community-building, and collaboration opportunity of our member B Corps and B Curious Companies. 🟢 Launched the first-ever B Impact Clinic in Chicago with our partner University of Illinois Chicago giving students an inside look at how B Corps work, and the needs & challenges they face. This gave students the opportunity to develop innovative ideas to help our B Corps, while fostering awareness & collaboration opportunities between students and impact-focused companies. 🟢 Re-vamped internal operations to build a solidified and cohesive marketing presence to amplify the incredible work our B Corps do everyday. But we're not done! Next year - our goals are EVEN BIGGER. We aim to: ⬆️ Grow our offerings with more networking events, workshops, panels, and opportunity for community building. 👩🏽 Develop a women's series focused on the growth and development of women leaders across our community. 👨🏫 Expand the influence and presence of the B Impact Clinic. 🏞️ Partner with community-based organizations for volunteering activities. 🧐 Proactively support the B Corp process with B Curious organizations. 💹 Build a long-term operational model to scale our influence & advocacy of the B Corp movement. 🏛️ Partner with members of local government to advocate for the interests of our B Corp organizations. 📣 Continue to build a robust marketing presence to amplify, support, and deliver value to our B Corps. If you can help, any little bit goes a long way. Please consider donating to https://lnkd.in/gsU_cPyE

I'm almost afraid to post this. I know there are many who vehemently disagree. However, I've just read another post about how social impact organizations should get out of the event business. And I get it. I really do. But I don't fully agree. I understand that many in the social impact space seriously dislike events or put up with them as a necessary part of our work. Why don't we like them? They tend to have high costs to raise a dollar. We rarely factor in staff time to the expense ratio and too often -- they don't align with our mission. Further, events come with a high opportunity cost. Small staff teams find their time hijacked with event details instead of researching grant opportunities or meeting with potential individual donors or stewardship of current donors or professional development. Events often involve a considerable amount of volunteer management. However, events are also a relatively accessible way for a wider group of donors and potential donors to support and share in our mission. They are a good 'first gift' opportunity for individuals who want to learn about our work. As long as they are part of a diversified revenue generation portfolio and either woven into the organization in a seamless and integrated manner (i.e. a signature event) or delivered as a fully third-party community event -- I think they have their place. For me, signature events are most effective when we can afford to invest in experts like Hala Events & Communications Inc. Third-party community events are a joy when we have amazing folks like Anita Dhillon and Navdeep Gill who are leading the charge this weekend for the Ride for Raja in support of Peel Children's Aid Foundation. Finally, and equally important to thinking and caring about donors, sponsors, volunteers, board members and the communities we work alongside, as they relate to events, so too must we ensure we are doing our best for the staff team. I'm grateful every day for this incredible team. We are accomplishing great things together and that makes every day meaningful, purposeful and a privilege. (Missing from the photo are Joan Forde and Nada Ali who manage the Community Care Centre.) 🌍 What a great Opening Plenary. The Hon. Julia Gillard AC shared profound insights on the evolving landscape of philanthropy, emphasising the contrasts between Western and Eastern approaches. Here are some key takeaways: - US Philanthropy Under Scrutiny: Ms Gillard highlighted growing criticism of US foundations, such as concerning tax avoidance and the imposition of solutions on communities. She stressed the importance of collaboration: “Philanthropic organisations must leverage government support.” However, she did note that doesn't mean they need to use this as a reason to make cuts and spoke of how philanthropy will outrun government election cycles therefore can be in it for the long run. - Need for Systematic Approaches: Metrics and measurement are vital for evaluating the effectiveness of philanthropic efforts. New philanthropists advocate for data-driven strategies to ensure accountability and impact. - Cultural Differences in Generosity: The World Giving Index 2024 shows significant disparities in charitable contributions between regions. Asian philanthropy often focuses on community engagement, contrasting with the more visible acts in the West. - Historical Context Matters: Figures like Titus Salt and the Cadbury family exemplify how philanthropy can improve community health and well-being. The Wellcome Trust continues this legacy, addressing global health challenges. - Urgent Health Challenges: Julia pointed to the rising threat of drug-resistant infections and climate change as “pandemics in slow motion,” calling for a coordinated global response. The need for deep trust, humility, and collaboration among stakeholders is crucial for addressing complex global health challenges. - Collaboration Over Division: Instead of viewing differences as a clash of cultures, Ms Gillard encouraged learning from one another and sharing stories of new solutions. Concluding Thoughts Collaboration and Learning: - Rather than framing differences between East and West as a clash of cultures, the focus should be on learning from each other to enhance philanthropic efforts. - Discussions around public access to health data raise important questions about privacy and trust, highlighting the necessity of transparency in research. - Questions arise about whether Asian philanthropy will follow Western models or adopt new approaches. Hope and Meaningfulness: Balancing a sense of hopelessness with meaningful actions is essential. I can’t help but relate my current reading choice to Ms Gillard’s point about encouraging sharing stories of new solutions and projecting positivity in the face of global challenges. A great start to the conference! Is #artificialintelligence the magic salvo to cure all ills? Of course not. If there's one thing we've learned from all those Terminator movies, it's that humans will always need to play the biggest role in determining how to navigate through the inevitable chaos. I contributed my thoughts #AI in this latest roundup from Forbes Nonprofit Council. #nonprofits
