What does Earth for All (Earth4All) mean for you?   🌍 Fadhel Kaboub فاضل قابوب, president of the Global Institute for Sustainable Prosperity, highlights an uncomfortable yet crucial truth: a financial system that ‘excludes’ low-income nations by design will never address the crises we face. In his Earth4All video, Kaboub argues that to solve today’s interconnected crises (the Polycrisis), we must look beyond individual actions or single-issue solutions. It’s about ‘changing a system’ that’s historically tilted in favor of the Global North.   As someone who studied Global History (history from a non-European perspective), it’s clear to me that understanding today’s inequities requires stepping outside a Eurocentric lens. The ongoing Polycrisis, from climate impacts to economic stress, can’t be tackled effectively if we ignore the historical legacies and structural challenges faced by the Global South.   Imagine what’s possible if we shift from seeing nations as “donors” or “recipients” and instead adopt Kaboub’s vision of a world where we’re all custodians of this planet. Earlier today, President Biden signed an Executive Order to accelerate the speed of AI infrastructure in the U.S, launching a new wave of AI advancement and securing our country’s national security.   AI could either become our greatest ally in the fight to tackle the climate crisis, or an immense burden on the many challenges already complicating the fight - from the critical materials needed to produce next generation chips powering the AI revolution to our fragile electric grid infrastructure. We put this piece together in an effort to comprehensively look at the impact of #SustainableAI across jurisdictions and policy challenges. Last month, Grove Climate Group put together a "think piece" for our clients on #SustainableAI and potential public policy solutions at the federal, state, and local levels to minimize risk. We offer ideas from chip production to data center construction to grid infrastructure, and beyond. This debate underscores the tension between tech infrastructure expansion and environmental sustainability. Marana, AZ, proposes rezoning requirements that could reshape data center development, balancing economic goals with community impact. After a much-needed annual leave, I was thrilled to jump back into action by moderating Panel 3 at the James Martin Institute for Public Policy Policymaker Summit 2024. Who knew discussing infrastructure could be so invigorating? 😊 Our topic was "Leveraging Partnerships for Future-Ready Infrastructure," and I had the pleasure of sharing the stage with some amazing panelists: Anthony Lean (Secretary, NSW Department of Climate Change, Energy, the Environment and Water), Sonya Campbell (Deputy Secretary, Commercial, NSW Treasury), and Associate Professor Amelia Thorpe (School of Law, Society & Criminology, UNSW). Here are my takeaways from our lively discussion: Synergy is Key but #Trust is Important: Public-private partnerships and community collaborations are essential to address our evolving infrastructure needs. Tech is Our Friend: #AI and #emergingtech aren't just buzzwords—they're game-changers. These technologies can make our infrastructure smarter, more efficient, and future-proof. Green is the Word: Tackling #environmental challenges through #strategic #partnerships is the way to go. Think green buildings, renewable energy systems, and smart transportation networks. Let's make our planet a healthier place while we're at it! Community is Everything: Getting the local community involved is a game-changer. It is not just about building stuff; it is about making sure everyone feels included and benefits from these projects. Social inclusion and equity are where it is at. Policy, Policy, Policy: We need a solid policy framework to support these innovative partnerships and sustainable projects. Clear guidelines, incentives for private investment, and impact monitoring are critical. Let's keep pushing forward to build infrastructure that meets societal needs today and tomorrow.
