"We've had 200+ applicants so we won't need your help" It's quite logical to assume that more applications will lead to an easier time getting your open role filled. Unfortunately, start-up recruitment is rarely logical, and a huge amount of applications often means one or some of a few things: 1. Your advert isn't clear enough with role requirements, and it isn't speaking directly enough to your actual target market (who will be suitable for the job). 2. It's attracting serial appliers (candidates who have applied a tonne of ads alongside your own). Your chances on these candidates are super slim. 3. Your advert is doing an excellent job at drawing attention from AI application software (mentioning lots of languages/frameworks will do this). 4. It's a remote role - you can't avoid this but a remote ad will be 80-90% overseas candidates with no Australian working rights. I actually counted, and in 2024, just under 50% of the managers who initially pointed to 'fantastic' applicant numbers went on to engage us on the same role less than 2 weeks later. P.S. - Waiting the 2 weeks is optional ;)

Apply for Jobs: Set a weekly quota (e.g., 10 job applications) and apply to jobs that match your skills. Take it a step further by reaching out to recruiters on LinkedIn with your tailored CV. Here are my "two cents" on how to get more clients as technical/IT recruiters, these tips can also help recruiters in general and other businesses that require getting more clients. 𝐇𝐨𝐰 𝐓𝐨 𝐆𝐞𝐭 𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐂𝐥𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐬 1. Position yourself as a trusted advisor and consultant. Make problem-solving posts, write articles, and do podcasts and video content. 2. Focus on a specialized niche for your candidate pool so that you can target and present your candidates to clients seeking such specialists. A client would be looking to work with an expert who can fill a role as fast as possible. 3. Study the technique and art of selling. A good recruiter should be great at business development and sales. 4. Always focus on the decision makers of the company and don’t be afraid of getting rejected. To successfully defeat the fear of rejection you need to experience rejection.| 5. Ask more questions, especially the right questions. And even when the hiring manager will not use your services, ask them their reasons and grow from there. 6. Clients are people like you and I, confidently reach out to them and talk to them like people, not in a business discussion way but with the aim and attitude of adding value to their company. 7. Don’t copy what every other recruiter is doing, niche down, focus, and get better in your area of specialization, be different!
