The Visitor Economy is at the heart of what I do, after 30 years driving standards & operations in venues with people, I'm now lucky enough to be in a position on a wider scale to look at how economically we impact our businesses in locations and how we connect public & private sector better together to proactively help our VE businesses grow. The Industry needs to work on improving its overall PERCEPTION not in the sense of how venues mean so much to us all & how we celebrate & engage in these venues on a daily basis and the positive impact they have on our Health & Well-being - I mean focus on its Employment & Economic Powerhouse PERCEPTION - we offer so much to UK PLC! We also don't need to show how magical our PEOPLE are, that care, deliver and work so hard to produce magical moments for our customers everyday, we need to show PEOPLE what a great Industry it is to work in, and how "old perceptions" are changing - we pay well, there is life long careers, and excitingly, it is, one of the best Industries to grow Entrepreneurial flair. Finally, we also know great cities & towns are created and developed (PLACE MAKING) massively with the Pubs, Restaurants, Hotels, Night-time Venues, Etc at the heart of them. We need to be "a seat at the table" as a great influence on PLACE MAKING our venues have to towns and cities across the globe & also ensure government understands how to nurture & understand the trading conditions we need to deliver this positive impact for ALL OF US. #Hospitality #VisitorEconomy #Tourism #Local #Regional #National #International #Wrexham #Chester #Wirral #Liverpool #Manchester

This is a personal post. I have never hidden my pride at being from officially 7th Greatest City in the World (Time Out - https://lnkd.in/evSmrM3X -) Liverpool City Region Combined Authority and Liverpool City Council should be rightly proud. Growing up in 1970's & 80's Liverpool, it wasn't easy. We didn't do ourselves any favours (sometimes we still don't) and there was a clear dislike of the City's militancy. That wasn't without foundation but, thankfully, in 1984, Lord Heseltine spotted the potential and reminded us all of the opportunity that existed. Although it's not been a straight line, the result today is we are 7th!! Some turnaround in 40 years. I'm also proud to be from #GreatBritain and to live in the #UK However, it makes me smile (with irony), when we see what is coming out of our Nations capital (home to the Mayor of London). Mr Khan may have won a 3rd term, but all is not well down South. The good news is that #London remains the 4th best City in the World in the same survey. But there are issues. Being in #financialservices, the effect of what is happening in the City of London Corporation area has an affect on my day to day #life and, precisely because "#money makes the #world go round" it is important that we have a strong and vibrant "City". Being a visitor for non-commercial reasons to London, it is also important that London's #nightime economy regains its mojo. As has been pointed out by Martin Murray, "I remember a time when Liverpool would have probably been in the bottom 7, and this turn in fortune is, in no short part, because of its great #cultural #nightlife, which is now a £5BILLION -a-year visitor #economy, employing around 51,000 people. Another great benefit to the North West is that great working partnership #Liverpool has with #Manchester. Imagine that, authorities working together for the greater good. If only other areas would follow the lead". What Are the Biggest Business Industries in Liverpool - Tourism & Hospitality industries play a pivotal role, capitalising on the city's cultural #heritage and #entertainment options." The latest initiative coming out of Liverpool https://lnkd.in/e564vxGW ...sees experts from #sport, #film, #music, #hospitality and #leisure ..with a 5 yr plan. I am pleased to be a member of The Sporting Club, thanks to Ian Stafford, supported by Paul Cheetham-Karcz and Sedulo, who host their unique brand of #Business #Networking with Sport in Liverpool (and other cities, inc. Away supporters at Liverpool Football Club or Everton Football Club chant "you ain't got no history": Actually we have and in the commercial world think Rathbones Group Plc Evelyn Partners BNY Mellon | Pershing Brabners Hill Dickinson LLP Boodles Bibby Line Group Home Bargains. All that and our Universities, Museuems, Parks & Gardens. Blueprint? Just saying.... 👍✌️✊🕊️ #socialmedia

A HUGE double hit to UK nightlife… Two legendary venues, Motion in Bristol and Boom in Leeds, are being forced to shut down. Why? Developers have chosen to prioritise building flats and shops over preserving cultural landmarks. This isn’t progress, it’s the dismantling of our nightlife scene. These venues are hubs of creativity, connection, and identity, now being sacrificed for profit. While the demand for more housing and developments has become an inevitability in the UK, losing iconic spaces with deep cultural roots is a step too far. At what cost are we reshaping our cities?

The decline of London's nightlife is a good example of ongoing trend, accelerated, somewhat abruptly, post-COVID. My observations from recent reports highlight how strategies like those implemented by Accor are making a noticeable impact in adapting to this tough market. Additionally, venues that emphasize traditional products or cultural authenticity continue to attract customers who appreciate and seek out these experiences. Despite the challenges posed by external factors such as the war impacting organic product markets, ecotourism holds steady. It’s intriguing to see that elevating quality isn't always the key to success. Instead, reverting to time-honored traditions and maintaining classic venues are finding favor. Perhaps the frenetic pace of the 90s is behind us, but is that entirely a negative? Could it be an opportunity to move away from an era of excess and towards a more sustainable and meaningful approach to nightlife? 🌍 #UrbanEconomy #CulturalAuthenticity #SustainableTourism

🇬🇧 British cities work hard to delight their residents and visitors. They have to. Our climate is hardly world-class and the off-season is long. The #countryside is sporadically lovely and #seaside resorts have their moments every year. But it’s to the cities we most often turn for weekend breaks. There we know we’ll find a museum, heritage, good restaurants, cosy pubs, a theatre and a music scene. Word of mouth and the perennial recycling of “second #city” claims has tended to thrust a few places into the limelight. What is clear is that size is not everything and that what delights the chatterati (like #schools and house prices) doesn’t necessarily make for a great little #holiday. In our survey of 69 cities – all those in England, Wales and Scotland, with the exception of the square-mile City of #London – we focused on #fun things like hotels, parks, Unesco sites and #pubs, but also safety, public transport and rainfall. London still gets most attention. But #Liverpool, #Manchester, #Edinburgh and, of late, Birmingham, generate plenty of column inches. Are they in our top ten? An open letter to Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan on Why I can become London's Czar. As a passionate advocate for London's vibrant nightlife and cultural scene, I am excited to present my proposal for the role of London's Night Czar. With a deep understanding of the city's unique personality and the challenges facing its night-time economy, I believe I am well-positioned to champion and revitalize London's after-dark offerings. # Summary Vision for London's Night-Time Economy My vision is to transform London into a truly 24-hour city that balances a thriving nightlife with the needs of all. I aim to: 1. Boost London's night-time economy, which has the potential to be worth nearly £250 billion annually by 2035 2. Implement policies to safeguard existing nightlife venues from closure 3. Provide guidance and resources to help venues navigate licensing and regulatory challenges 4. Create a "Night-Time Venue Fund" to support struggling establishments 5. Work with transport authorities to improve late-night public transit options 6. Collaborate with police and community groups to enhance safety measures 7. Implement several initiatives like "Night Safety Charter" for venues to adopt best practices. 8. Develop active training programs for night-time economy workers 9. Advocate for fair wages and working conditions in the economical sector 10. Create pathways for career progression within the nightlife industry # Qualifications and Experience As a writer, entrepreneur, broadcaster, Lawyer, and businessman, I have firsthand experience of London's nightlife scene. My background in campaigning and advocacy makes me well-suited to navigate the complex stakeholder landscape of the night-time economy. I am committed to working collaboratively with other mayors, venue owners, residents, local authorities, and other key players to achieve our shared goals and effect changes. # Measurable Outcomes To ensure accountability and demonstrate the impact of the Night Czar role, I propose the following key performance indicators: 1. Increase in the number of night-time venues and events admist the rapid momentary closures. 2. Growth in night-time economy, in work-rate output, revenue and employment figures 3. Reduction in noise complaints and antisocial behavior incidents in respect to neighbour's and encouraging council policies 4. Improved satisfaction ratings from both nightlife participants and local residents 5. Increase in late-night public transport ridership By focusing on these measurable outcomes together, we can track progress and adjust strategies as needed to ensure the continued growth and success of London's night-time economy. In conclusion Mayor of London, Sadiq Khan, I would bring passion, experience, and a strategic vision to the role. I am committed to working tirelessly to ensure that London remains a global leader in nightlife and culture, creating a vibrant, safe, and inclusive environment for all to enjoy after-hours. #london
