BCG’s Center for Energy Impact analyzed the investment plans of leading energy companies, governments, and private equity players to compare real-world energy transition investments with net-zero scenario benchmarks. Energy companies and governments aim to inject an impressive $19 trillion into the energy transition over the next seven years. Company targets suggest a 15% increase in energy expenditures between 2023 and 2027, with an increasing share allocated to low-carbon investments. However, geopolitical uncertainties cast shadows, while higher commodity prices, capital constraints, and inflationary pressures present challenges, particularly for European utilities driving decarbonization efforts. Our preliminary full-year 2023 #greenfield foreign investment #data is out. The figures show how the energy transition dominates global capital flows. Renewable energy remained the dominant force in global #FDI in 2023, especially in hydrogen and other clean tech. Fossil fuel companies remained active last year, but so too did battery makers and the resource companies that supply them. There was one glaring omission in this year's matrix: the software sector. For the first time since 2013, software and IT services did not feature in the top 10 recipient industries for FDI. https://lnkd.in/gxAEwqPz #economicdevelopment
