At Spratley & Partners, we proudly support four L7 apprentices studying at institutions, including the University of Nottingham, Oxford Brookes, and UWE Bristol. This pathway offers an essential, affordable route to qualification, combining work and study to create well-rounded professionals. The withdrawal of L7 funding would make it unaffordable for many practices and students, limiting access to the profession and reducing diversity. Apprenticeships also cultivate collaboration between practices and universities, supporting valuable research on topics such as embodied carbon and the circular economy. We strongly urge policymakers to preserve this vital programme, which benefits individuals, practices, and the future of our industry. https://lnkd.in/ePEVtbYc #RIBA #Architecture #Apprenticeships #FutureTalent #DiversityInArchitecture
Proud to sign a letter to @rachelreevesMP today to send the message loud and clear: #KeepFundingL7Apprenticeships. My Level 7 Apprenticeship gave me opportunities I wouldn’t have had otherwise. Don’t deny those opportunities to others. https://lnkd.in/ePX9_FmR As a current Level 7 architectural apprentice I would be incredibly disappointed to see the funding for this scheme withdrawn. I take huge value from being able to learn alongside my work and feel this is vital in bridging the gap between theory and practice, particularly important in our push to decarbonise construction. I see no other opportunity for the leading research of universities to be fed so quickly and effectively into industry with the chance to work holistically to solve the real world problems that often impede the delivery of these kind of things. The Level 7 apprenticeship funding offers an imperative opportunity for those from less wealthy backgrounds to train for high-skill jobs, without having to take extended periods away from work.

The Architecture Apprenticeship Handbook The RIBA has published ' The Architecture Apprenticeship Handbook,' featuring valuable tips from our very own Anastasija Kostileva: 1. Connect early with peers to exchange ideas. 2. Apply work skills to academic tasks with a strong research & design focus. 3. Always ask questions! Our Director’s advice also features, highlighting the importance of business acumen for emerging professionals - exposure apprentices benefit from during their time in practice. As early adopters of the apprenticeship programme we are proud to be contributors to the handbook. Anastasija's journey has been a significant success for both her and the practice since she enrolled in an apprenticeship with The London South Bank University back in 2019. This was the early days of apprenticeships and felt like a leap of faith for both Anastasija and the practice; very few universities were offering them, there were no graduates to provide reassurance and they require a significant investment and four-year commitment. However, recognising apprenticeships pivotal role in making a career in architecture more accessible, Anastasija enrolled with the support of our Directors. “My goal was always to become an architect so I knew I couldn’t be a Part I forever but I really enjoyed working in practice. Real projects, real issues and colleagues there to support you. It motivated me and reinforced the idea that architecture is what I want to do. Doing my apprenticeship at Bell Phillips was my best professional decision so far. It was challenging, especially during lockdown, but my job provided stability and motivation. Whenever I doubted my university work, I remembered that I handle more complex tasks at work." This April marked a year since Anastasija qualified as an Architect and we are very proud of her journey to that long-desired (and deserved) title. Following in her footsteps, Architectural Assistant, Eleanor Hollis has recently enrolled in an apprenticeship scheme with the University of Cambridge whilst continuing her fantastic work with us here in Wapping. Apprenticeships offer a valuable alternative to the traditional educational route and following Anastasija’s success story, we are committed to employing at least one member of staff on the Part II / Part III apprenticeship scheme. #ArchitectureApprenticeship #FutureArchitects #RIBA #CareerAdvice #apprenticeship RIBA London South Bank University University of Cambridge

I've witnessed countless stories within my family and my community in Mangere East and broader South Auckland—students of all ages grappling with tough decisions about their studies and jobs to support their families. For too long, we have designed systems that have forced us to choose between advancing our education and helping our loved ones. The launch of Degree-level apprenticeships is a game-changer. As Katherine Hall, Executive Director of ConCOVE Tūhura, puts it: "By integrating academic study with practical work experience, we are equipping future professionals with the skills and knowledge needed to thrive in industry—faster." We are finally attuning our systems to our sector's and communities' urgent needs. Transformative projects like Degree-level apprenticeships, along with the many initiatives ConCOVE is enabling within the construction and infrastructure sector and VET, are why we were set up. #DegreeLevelApprenticeships #EarnAsYouLearn #EmpoweringCommunities #ConCOVETūhura #IndustryReady #SystemsChange

Improving access to careers in the built environment with PlanBEE (Built Environment Education) 🎓🏗️ After a successful first year of operating in London, PlanBEE is seeking more built environment businesses looking to expand their alternative routes into careers through apprenticeships. Commenting on our involvement with the programme, Peter Barker, partner at Ryder, said: “Ryder goes beyond simply bridging skills gaps, it wants young people to be excited by architecture, engineering and construction as an integrated industry, and to recognise the abundance of opportunities available to them in these professions. “PlanBEE is a hybrid Level 4 and Level 5 qualification with Gateshead College, comprising HNC and HND qualifications in design construction and management. Digital design and coordination is also at the core of the learning, and students become extremely proficient in a range of software. It is also underpinned by the construction, design and build technician apprenticeship standard. “The holistic and rotational nature of the PlanBEE programme is one of its key strengths and an important differentiator to a costly university degree. By offering a diverse range of paid placements and experiences, the students not only build an invaluable understanding of how the sector works across disciplines, but they are left completely free to go in the direction that best suits them.” Read more about the value of apprenticeships and how your business can get involved in our latest article ➡️ https://lnkd.in/eTRDtwW4 #Everythingarchitecture #planbee #apprenticeships #londoncareers
