🚆 Inside Track - The State of Transport 2024 🚍 The Urban Transport Group has just released its comprehensive Inside Track - The State of Transport 2024 report, offering crucial insights into the current and future landscape of urban transport across the UK. As our cities and regions evolve, so do the challenges and opportunities in transport. This report highlights 8 key trends that will shape the future of mobility and outlines how we must respond to ensure sustainable and equitable growth: ⚫Growing Unevenly: City region populations are expanding unevenly; we need to unlock the full potential of all places. ⚫Economic Growth Gaps: City region economies are growing but lagging behind the England average; levelling up remains crucial. ⚫Accelerating Devolution: Devolution is advancing rapidly; we must keep momentum on transport powers and funding. ⚫Fewer Trips: People are making fewer trips; we need a clear, integrated transport vision. Bus in Decline: The bus, our most-used transport mode, is in a spiral of decline; we must back the bus. ⚫Rail Growth Stalled: Rail and light rail growth has stalled post-pandemic; let's get tram and train back on track. ⚫Active Travel: The pandemic cycling boom was short-lived, and walking trips are recovering; we must champion all forms of active travel. ⚫Car Dominance: The car is still king, but this needs to change. This report is a call to action for policymakers, planners, and communities to address these trends and drive positive change in our transport systems. Together, we can create a more sustainable, connected, and equitable future. Free ride? How fun and environmentally friendly is that? Public transport for free! You may argue it is easy for a small country, such as Luxembourg. But how about breaking down complexity into small, manageable pieces and taking it from there?

Forward-thinking cities are rebranding #publictransit as the new #publicmobility! Norway is a success story in incentives where 90% of new cars are electric, but this has left the transit authority lagging in ridership. And while bike-sharing, carpooling and #micromobility services are well-integrated in places like Norway and France, neither transit authorities nor #mobilityservices alone can compete with the public’s reliance on private cars. By joining forces with mobility services transit authorities can create mobility networks with a diverse menu of options – a powerful travel alternative. The goal? To reduce urban congestion, cut, pollution and lessen dependence on private cars. The shift isn’t just about adding new services – it’s about integration and subsidies. These incentives can make shared mobility more appealing and accessible, helping motorists shift their habits away from private car use. This revolution requires collaboration between governments, municipalities, and private operators to create flexible transport alternatives that meet climate targets. "Green Deal, Sustainable Trade and Turkiye's Integration" - Jean Monnet Module / Project Coordinator: Prof.Dr. Rana Atabay Kuşçu
♻️🚗 Car-Free Day is the primary event of European mobility week, with the widely celebrated marking the conclusion. 🌱🌍Public transport keeps cities and towns moving in an efficient, environmental-friendly way, allowing people to reach their jobs, education, health appointments or leisure activities. Clean buses can reach any destination in a city and region. Complemented by a network of multimodal hubs to facilitate first and last mile connections, regional and suburban rail, metro, tram and urban rail systems and bus rapid transit (BRT) systems are recognised for their high capacity and contribution to land-use development. Significant legislation has been introduced in Europe, reshaping the public transport sector. #TheSustainableandSmartMobilityStrategy (SSMS) and the EU’s Urban Mobility Framework call for modal shift and more sustainable daily mobility. The public transport industry directly supports 1.3 million jobs across Europe. Recent studies have highlighted the necessity of a modal shift towards public transport as a key strategy for reducing greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and air pollutants associated with daily travel. 🟢✅The public transport sector is on the brink of widespread digitalization, in line with the evolving technological expectations of its users.
