@TotalEnergies and its partner @Petrobras have kicked off 2024 in style. Our latest FPSO, Mero2, started production on January 1st, using innovative #technology to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Mero is a hydrocarbon field located on the Libra block, part of the deep #offshore pre-salt region in #Brazil. Using pioneering technology, this pilot unit will separate oil from CO2-rich gas at the bottom of the ocean, enabling the gas to be reinjected directly into the reservoir. This new offshore asset reduces the volume of gas sent to the surface, thereby reducing the intensity of greenhouse gas emissions and also increasing the field production capacity. It’s a very concrete illustration of our "More energy, less emissions" strategy. In addition to the immediate benefits for operations in #Brazil, this new technology should find applications for other projects across #TotalEnergies.

Offshore rig day rates hit a 9-year high in 2022, averaging $118,000 for jackups, $368,000 for semi-submersibles, and $419,000 for drillships - a 54% increase from 2021 rates. The high rates were driven by increased global rig demand amid tightening supply. However, this has also led to a slowdown in contracting activity as operators try to keep projects economical. Some operators are pursuing joint ownership arrangements for rigs to help control costs during the high rate environment. TotalEnergies acquired a 75% stake in the drillship Tungsten Explorer through a joint venture with Vantage Drilling to secure the rig at a lower cost. The company hints at potentially pursuing more such deals. Other examples of rig joint ownership include Petrobras/Mitsui's ultradeepwater drillship, ONGC owning jackups/drillships, Equinor's jackups in the North Sea, and Arena Energy's affiliate owning jackups in the Gulf of Mexico. For operators needing long-term (10+ year) rig capacity, joint ownership can help stabilize project economics during the high day rate cycle and can also guaranteed long-term revenue streams. #offhosre #oilandgas #offshoredrillingcontractors
Operators consider novel rig deals to limit day rates
