📣 One opening left!!! 📣 We're looking to represent the Midwest with the final spot in this round of photo shoots for the Complete College Photo Library! Don't delay, the final decision will be made before the holiday break, so get in on this now. The purpose of this project is to create an open source, free archive of photos of real college students, faculty, and staff, on real campuses. By helping journalists, nonprofits, and educational organizations tell stories about the higher ed experience using real faces and places, we change the narrative around who belongs in college. (Hint: it's not just 18-25 year olds with perfect skin on Ivy League campuses.) You've seen my posts about visits to campuses around the country for this project, but the story that we haven't gotten to tell yet is my own-a student of color at an Indiana PWI. If you're at a Midwestern 4 year university with a diverse student population and want to help include your campus experience in the visual narrative of college in the United States, let's talk. The selected campus will need a staff or faculty coordinator and a student assistant, who will both receive a stipend for their assistance. Learn more or apply here: https://lnkd.in/dKc8zmkS Get a preview and sign up for updates when the library is released here: https://lnkd.in/deG9HAKh

Today (no, we didn’t intend to plan this right after election day!), Kristen Simon and I hosted a practical and in-depth webinar on college readiness: “Is Your 12th Grader Ready for College? How to Know and What to Do Next” 🎓 We explored many critical skills for college success, like academic preparedness, executive function, and self-advocacy. We also discussed alternative steps and paths to take when students are not yet ready for college. Check out the recording if you’re navigating the college transition as a professional or parent with a high school senior—or preparing for this journey down the line. (And please ignore the 3 minutes where I had technical difficulties and appeared to be presenting in blurred anonymity!) 👉 Watch here: https://lnkd.in/eXE7Vxye #CollegeReadiness #TransitionPlanning #TransitionAssessment #TransitionServices #HighSchoolToCollege #PostSecondarySuccess #ParentingTeens #LifeSkills #ExecutiveFunction

Less than three weeks until the start of our fall Higher Ed Community of Practice! Here's what the summer cohort had to say: “I liked hearing from the other instructors what content they were adding to their courses and their justification for doing so. It is giving me a lot of great ideas for my own course.” “There are so many valuable things that I will use. My class will be much more hands-on with students practicing the instructional techniques instead of me always doing the modeling.” “This course helped me to wrap my head around strategies to help undergraduate students understand the big picture.” 🗓️ Join us this fall for a six-week community of practice with other reading professors to learn more about teaching educator prep candidates about evidence-based literacy instruction. Through this community of practice, you will: 🔑 Explore key theories and instructional practices aligned with evidence-based literacy instruction 🧠 Receive access to journal articles and learning activities to include in your course syllabi that are aligned with the science of reading and educator certification standards 🤝 Expand your network by making connections with peers from other institutions Register here: https://bit.ly/3Uvz5NN

Inspiring the next generation to embrace innovation is not just about shaping their future—it's about securing ours. As leaders, mentors, and changemakers, we have the responsibility to guide today’s youth toward discovering their potential and fostering creativity. Whether it’s through nurturing curiosity, teaching problem-solving, or celebrating diverse ideas, we can empower them to think big and dream even bigger. This repost highlights the incredible role of innovation in transforming industries and the importance of protecting intellectual property. By engaging with the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office (PTO) and similar organizations, we can motivate young minds to become inventors, entrepreneurs, and leaders. Let’s cultivate a legacy of innovation that will drive economic growth and societal progress. Join the movement—let’s inspire and empower the next wave of thinkers and doers! #InnovationGeneration #FutureLeaders #InspireCreativity #EmpowerYouth #IntellectualProperty #NextGenInventors
