Why use oil-free air in your facility? There's an old phrase that is also a law of physics: what goes in must eventually come out. Compressed air users are becoming increasingly intolerant of contamination in their systems. Especially processes that require clean, dry air. Enter oil-free compressed air. But oil-free air has other benefits besides providing high-quality compressed air. It can also lower a facility's operating costs. Founder at SMARTCAir | Innovator in Compressed Air Efficiency Solutions | Driving Sustainable Industrial Practices
One of the requirements for accurate modeling and quantification of compressed air is accommodating for the differences between ‘Standard’ and ‘Actual’ values for flow (another common compressed air term is ‘Free Air Delivered (FAD)’). Air compressors are volumetric machines that produce a steady flow volume of air regardless of the inlet temperature, pressure, water vapor content (RH), or density of the air being compressed. Below we derive the expressions and illustrate with two examples the issues. At #SMARTCAir we are completely focused on the accurate application of first principles to produce timely and independent compressed air analysis. Talk to us about a free introductory assessment. #CompressedAir #CompressedAirSystems #EnergyEfficiency #EnergyManagement

How Does Draft Pressure Drive Efficiency in Power Plants? Draft pressure measurement is vital for optimizing combustion in power plant boilers by regulating airflow and ensuring efficient operation. It involves monitoring the difference between furnace or flue gas pressure and atmospheric pressure to control forced and induced drafts. Forced drafts push air into the furnace for oxygen supply, while induced drafts pull flue gases out, maintaining continuous flow. Measuring draft pressure at key points like the furnace and flue gas stack allows for precise control of airflow, preventing safety issues and minimizing energy loss. Proper draft management enhances efficiency, reduces fuel consumption, and lowers emissions. #sustainability

This large drum-like structure behind the cylinder head is the exhaust gas manifold. It plays a crucial role in the main engine of a ship, collecting exhaust gases from each individual cylinder and channeling them into a single outlet. This consolidation ensures a smoother and more efficient flow of gases, contributing to the engine's overall performance and longevity. The exhaust gas manifold helps maintain a balanced flow of exhaust gases from all cylinders, ensuring they reach the outlet simultaneously. This balance is important for maintaining the performance and longevity of the engine. Additionally, the manifold is designed to manage the extreme heat generated during the combustion process, protecting nearby components and reducing the risk of damage. Another important function of the exhaust gas manifold is noise reduction. By directing and channeling the exhaust gases efficiently, the manifold helps dampen the noise produced during the combustion process, contributing to a quieter and more comfortable onboard environment.

Oxygen-deficient atmospheres are those that contain less than 19.5% oxygen. Breathing this air can cause workers to lose judgment, coordination, and consciousness and in extreme cases, it can cause suffocation and death. Oxygen depletion can occur in a variety of ways in confined spaces, but most often, it involves displacement. In spaces such as holes and pits, gases that are heavier than air gravitate to the bottom and push the oxygen above. Having the correct gas detection equipment that is constantly monitoring the atmosphere is essential. http://ow.ly/IIrl50FXEuX #gasdetection #confinedspaces

While the drive to conserve energy and control costs isn’t new, more and more companies are looking to rotary screw air compressors to help cut energy use and cost and reduce their carbon footprint. Of course, compressed air is not the most energy-efficient power source, but it is indispensable, especially when it is unsafe to introduce electricity. Air-powered tools run cooler and are much lighter (helping with worker fatigue), for example. They don’t generate sparks or fires. You can use them in environments where conductive materials and flammable liquids are present. And heat, dust and debris make a typical industrial plant a hostile environment for electric tools. Learn more about the energy-efficiency advantages of rotary screw air compressors in our featured blog!
