Where do good ideas come from? This timeless TED talk unpacks the optimal ways to find inspiration that fuels innovation. Hint: coffee has something to do with it! "People often credit their ideas to individual "Eureka!" moments. But Steven Johnson shows how history tells a different story. His fascinating tour takes us from the "liquid networks" of London's coffee houses to Charles Darwin's long, slow hunch to today's high-velocity web." https://lnkd.in/dEMAQkMC

#Mondaymotivation and #inspiration from Bettany “We are all made by the journeys we take.” Bettany Hughes I heard this inspiring quote at the weekend and it knocked my socks off, so I thought I’d knock your socks off too! 🧦 😀 Professor Bettany Hughes is an award-winning historian, author and broadcaster, who has devoted the last 25 years to the vibrant communication of the past. Her speciality is ancient and mediaeval history and culture. ABOUT | bettanyhughes https://lnkd.in/e8dHHvQB Bettany's outstanding series, 'Treasures of the World', on Channel 4, shares with us life’s lessons from down the ages; how power corrupts, and how those with the least are always the most generous. Please check it out, if you have some time this week. Watch Bettany Hughes' Treasures of the World | Stream free on Channel 4 https://lnkd.in/ec3ubbNN It is as fascinating as it is so heartbreakingly sad and yet somehow so utterly predictable, I guess; how we witness leaders year after year to this day, at all levels, repeating the mistakes of the past. And they won’t be the last. Aldous Huxley had it right when he said, “That men do not learn very much from the lessons of history is the most important of all the lessons of history.” #sotrue Everyone, please have a great week. Enjoy your journey. #keeplearningkeepgrowing 🦉 💪 🚀 📺 🎬 📻 SANDSTONE GLOBAL PRODUCTIONS | A TV, film and audio production company dedicated to making ‘the best work, by the best people, for the best reasons’. #valuesdriven #internationalist #motivationalmonday #motivation #inspirational #inspire #inspireothers #learning #thinking #learningeveryday #history #journey #leadership #leadershipqualities #leadershipmatters #leadbyexample #setthetone

Pioneering Ecological Constraint-Based Negotiation Training | Facilitator of Clean Negotiation Configuration Praxis | Empowering Entrepreneurial Collective Intelligence
I really enjoyed this conversation hosted by John Vervaeke about creativity and wisdom and hope you'll have a listen and do too. They wrapped with discussing expertise, a topic that's been on my mind. It occurred to me that the degree of expertise, whether that knowledge is held by an individual or a community of practice, could be defined by the quality of questions asked that produced more accurate and coherent ideas about the reality of it. What do you think? https://lnkd.in/gpsvBxft

In a thought-provoking conversation with Sumiko Tan of The Straits Times, Noubar Afeyan - Founder and CEO of Flagship Pioneering and Co-Founder and Chairman of our Board of Directors - introduces the concept of “intellectual immigration.” This philosophy, central to Noubar’s narrative, emphasizes the continual quest for the unknown, driven by a discomfort with the present and a relentless pursuit of groundbreaking innovation. Noubar’s foundational “what-if” approach, a cornerstone in the establishment of all #FlagshipFounded companies, inspires us to explore uncharted territories in science and medicine. At Generate:Biomedicines, this principle inspires our dedication to revolutionizing drug discovery and development in order to bring forward more effective, accessible, and rapidly deployable medicines. To learn more about Noubar's innovative approach, see the article below: https://lnkd.in/eeUKYcMj #GenerativeAI | #ProteinEngineering
"You keep having to relearn, re-earn your reputation. And that in my view is a great thing because it keeps you sharp, competitive, creative and humble.” Flagship Founder & CEO Noubar Afeyan explains why you can’t 'rest on your laurels' as a pioneer. Read more about what pioneering means to him, how Flagship was born from asking bold what-if questions, and why he sees innovation as a form of “intellectual immigration” in this piece by Sumiko Tan, Executive Editor of The Straits Times below or here: https://lnkd.in/eNY3HE_n And catch Noubar in this episode of The Straits Times’ Lunch with Sumiko: https://lnkd.in/ew-Rdfvh

Founder, JC Coaching & Consulting | Positive Lawyering Professor | Former Law School Assistant Dean | Recovering Type A+ Perfectionist
I had so much fun nerding out with Rachael Bosch in this recent Fringe Chat on Perfectionism in the Workplace. In addition to discussing our own perfectionism recovery stories (and why it's ok that they're ongoing!), Rachael and I explored the important differences between perfectionism and excellence and unpacked why the former can actually preclude our ability to achieve the latter. We also dug into the neuroscience behind why self-criticism is effectively self-sabotage, and why self-compassion (as counterintuitive as it may sound) is actually a superpower rather than a soft and squishy self-indulgence. Finally, we discussed the why and how of humanizing the workplace and concrete steps leaders and mentors can take to create a culture of growth mindset and psychological safety that brings out the best in their people. Oh... and Rachael plays her singing bowl :) Check it out via the link below and let us know what you think! #perfectionism #growthmindset #positivelawyering
🤩 We're excited to share Rachael's recent conversation with Jordana Confino on the pitfalls of perfectionism, the power of constructive behavior, and the magic of embracing a growth mindset. Check out the full conversation below! 👇 https://hubs.la/Q02xkcjl0

Beginning with Charles Darwin's first encounter with the teeming ecosystem of the coral reef and drawing connections to the intellectual hyper-productivity of modern megacities and to the instant success of YouTube, Johnson shows us that the question we need to ask is, "What kind of environment fosters the development of good ideas?" (hint: it isn't Disney+) https://lnkd.in/eU_2hU6 #leadershipdevelopment #goals #managerdevelopment #career #growth #coaching
