In late June, McDonald’s released its $5 Meal Deal, intended as a limited-time promotion but recently extended at least through the end of August. Numerator analyzed purchasing data from the first three weeks of the deal (June 25–July 14) and surveyed verified buyers to gain insight into sentiment around the deals. When was the last time you visited a Subway Outlet? The Indian market for quick service restaurant (QSR) chains is growing rapidly as more and more consumers are opting for quick bites. Subway entered the Indian market in the early 2000s, but it seems they didn't quite understand the assignment until now. To put it simply, when someone can satisfy their hunger with a ₹60 burger, why would they pay a quarter of a grand for a Subway sandwich? While Subways are healthier and more filling, pricing is the supreme variable influencing the masses. If Subway had positioned itself as a budget-friendly go-to meal option, rather than just a go-to meal, their game in the Indian market would have been totally different. #QSR #food

Strategic price reductions are coming to QSR. It’s a necessary move for many brands right now to win customers back. Despite higher labor, rent, and food costs - QSR can only take so many price increases before the value proposition is lost on the cash-strapped, inflation-weary QSR consumer. Expect to see at QSR chains: 💡 door buster meals 💡 family value meals 💡 at least one complete meal offer under $7 💡 increased loyalty rewards focused on frequency of visit. Expect also for the battle of franchisee vs. franchisor on the topic of $.99 and value menus. These pricing strategies are will be around for a hot minute. Mosr economists agree, we are not coming out of inflationary period for several quarters, well into 2025. Interesting to see how this affects the blurred line between QSR and fast casual.
