We are incredibly excited to share the 2024 Edition of SVDG’s NATSEC100, sponsored by JPMorganChase. The purpose of this report is to offer a data-driven snapshot in time of our emergent techno-security ecosystem–one which we hope will drive meaningful, if pointed, discourse about the state of the Defense Industrial Base (DIB) and broader National Security Innovation Base (NSIB). While this list is by no means a perfect encapsulation of the Ecosystem, we hope that—at minimum—it provides that data-driven foundation for the important dialogue we must continue to have loudly, honestly, and publicly.    This year, we hope you’ll recognize that several variables seem to be trending in the right direction. Even things we were surprised by. But overall, the picture is still far from rosy. There is a lot of work that remains to be done - by all stakeholders: industry, government, the private capital community. We all have a role to play. The question is how committed are we to playing those respective roles. So excited to see Lambda highlighted 4th on the list for the #natsec100 from Silicon Valley Defense Group. AI, deep tech, and next generation aerospace are a key part of the defense industrial base, so it is exciting to see these industries thrive in America. If you take a peek at the list it is super cool to think about how these technologies feed off of each other, like GPUs powering hardware design and autonomy and sensing. Most of these firms have a #dualuse and #deeptech flavor-it is exciting to see the depth of these markets doing both civilian and DOD use speed up market adoption of everything from AI to faster air travel.

Aembit Honourable mention: Harmonic Security — I think this would be totally tedious to manage in reality but is a cool innovation nonetheless. Super cool to see the overlap happening when I look at innovation in the start up ecosystem compared to what Rachel Jin and team are building for data and cloud in our own innovation incubator at Trend Micro 🎉 the goal is always to predict, anticipate, and build proactively for the next evolution in enterprise IT architecture and threat landscape. It was great to see familiar faces, meet new ones, and discuss the future of data spaces.   💡 A key highlight was Boris Otto’s insightful talk on the importance of dynamic data in #data spaces—an area critical for fostering innovation and collaboration. Dynamic data is not only reshaping the landscape but also stands as a top priority for us at Basis Data Infrastructuur (BDI).   Conversations about bringing innovation to existing businesses, trusted data-sharing use cases, and service provider opportunities sparked new ideas and reaffirmed the direction we’re heading. Moments like these remind us how important it is to stay connected and share knowledge in an ever-evolving #digital world. 𝗜𝗗𝗦𝗔’𝘀 𝗲𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝗕𝗿𝘂𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹𝘀 𝗶𝗴𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗲𝘀 𝗺𝗼𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘂𝗺 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗗𝗮𝘁𝗮𝘀𝗽𝗮𝗰𝗲 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝗰𝗼𝗹 𝗮𝗱𝗼𝗽𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 Yesterday’s exclusive IDSA event, "Making the Dataspace Protocol an International Standard," in Brussels sparked a powerful conversation about the future of data spaces. With a select group of key technologists, entrepreneurs, and policymakers gathered in one room, the message was crystal clear: We are united in our purpose to achieve data sovereignty, and IDSA is leading the charge. 𝘛𝘩𝘦 𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘯𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘮𝘰𝘳𝘦 𝘵𝘩𝘢𝘯 𝘫𝘶𝘴𝘵 𝘢 𝘥𝘪𝘢𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘶𝘦—𝘪𝘵 𝘸𝘢𝘴 𝘢 𝘤𝘰𝘮𝘮𝘪𝘵𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵. Organizations such as Catena-X, Gaia-X Association for Data and Cloud (AISBL), and IONOS have now pledged to adopt the Dataspace Protocol (DSP), marking a significant step forward in driving interoperability and trusted #DataSharing across Europe. As the European Union prepares to implement the Data Governance Act next year, IDSA’s groundwork with the DSP is setting the stage for a new era of #DigitalSovereignty. Our efforts are not only aligned with Europe’s vision for trusted data sharing but are also central to realizing the full potential of a robust and secure data economy. Throughout the day, the conversations were lively and constructive, with participants from multiple sectors reaffirming IDSA’s central position in shaping the data space movement. The leadings experts gathered, and their shared enthusiasm was palpable—discussions continued long after the session ended, underscoring the urgency and significance of this topic. As the protocol moves closer to becoming an international standard, we are more committed than ever to establish the foundation for interoperable and secure #DataSpaces. Yesterday’s event wasn’t just about envisioning a future of trustworthy data sharing—it was about defining the standards that will turn that vision into reality. 🚀 "Making the Dataspace Protocol an International Standard", the exclusive event organized by the International Data Spaces Association (IDSA) last Monday in Brussels where I was able to participate along with a wide variety of pioneering players in the topic of data spaces. After Boris Otto and Lars Nagel declared our commitment to drive the data economy following the European values of digital sovereignty, Coen Janssen presented the path towards the international standardization of data spaces and Michael Plagge showed the path from the Eclipse Foundation for the standardization of the Dataspace Protocol (DSP), the key enabler for the adoption of data spaces. After this, pioneering organisations and initiatives in the definition and implementation of the DSP such as TNO (Maarten Kollenstart), #SIMPL, IONOS (Arian Firouzbakhsh), Catena-X and Cofinity-X (Matthias Buchhorn-Roth) presented why the DSP is necessary and how they benefit from it in various domains such as industry or energy. At this moment, I had the opportunity to talk about how Tekniker has benefited from the DSP in the Horizon Europe project DigiChecks to facilitate data sharing between the different stakeholders involved in the management of building permits in the construction industry and how we have implemented the DSP in the Tekniker Dataspace Connector. 🤝 Finally, Silvia Castellvi set out the efforts that we all need to make in the future for the standardization of data spaces beyond the DSP and Ulrich Ahle and Gerard van der Hoeven identified how Gaia-X Association for Data and Cloud (AISBL) and iSHARE Foundation respectively benefit from the DSP and complement it with the Trust Frameworks they propose. 👏 In short, data spaces are starting to become a reality! Lori D. Coombs was a speaker at this year’s National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) 2024 Human Systems Conference that highlights “Next Generation Platforms and the Evolving Role of the Human.” Her presentation discussed ways to enhance Protection, Sustainment, and Warfighter Performance (PS&WP) using human-systems integration and cybersecurity aspects to protect space and flight systems. The role of the human within a system evolves as technology progresses. The ever-changing dynamic between humans and machines requires the involvement of the end-user across the entire product lifecycle, including concept development, implementation, delivery, and maintenance. Additionally, advances in policy to incorporate Human Systems Integration (HSI) planning in defense acquisition (such as the publication of DOD Instruction 5000.95) require supportive and informative discourse about how HSI can maximize the efficacy of DOD platforms across their lifecycles. The mission of the NDIA Human Systems Division is to advocate for the expansion of research and development in areas related to the human as a system, particularly in contexts in which the human must be integrated into a “system of systems.” This conference provides representatives from Government, industry, and academia the opportunity to exchange technical information, learn about ongoing HSI-related research and development efforts, discuss advocacy efforts, and advance human performance in air, land, sea, space, and cyberspace.
