Morning of our Day 4 of our EY 🇦🇺Australia Future Energy Networks Tour⚡️, some highlights: Words of the day: ‘Making the energy a reality’ 💪 Our journey took us to #Adelaide, South Australia, a region witnessing a remarkable renewable energy revolution. In just eight years, South Australia has seen its demand covered by renewables soar from 36% to an impressive 75%📈, with the goal to achieve 100% renewable energy by 2027 🤯. The state stands out with one in three households boasting rooftop solar☀️🏡, a testament to the distributed nature of this energy transformation. Our day began with a visit to AGL’s Torrens Island, where we observed firsthand the strategic shift needed for the energy transition to happen. From a natural gas-fired 1280MW power station built in the 60-70’s, that is currently in decommissioning to a: -> 210MW fast gas starter generator 🏎️ -> + 250MW 1 hour duration battery - a large grid-scale battery comprised of 218, 1,3MW Wartsila Gridsolv Quantum units, that has been operational since 2023, participating in the energy market and providing support to the grid 🔋🔋🔋🔋🔋. AGL is proactively adapting, exploring diverse technologies and repurposing business models, including the development of energy hubs 🧠 in a constant effort to respond to the energy transition while maximizing the return of their assets💰.
