Ask and share. It doesn't have to be face to face communities but regular subscriptions to discussion groups. 👩💻 Expand your network, find your mentor and don't be worried to surpass others who may have more experience. 📢 Be vocal about your achievements. I know people who have learnt and grown more but nobody knows about it. For corporate growth , one needs to be able to present themselves as a brand. People know an impression of rather than you yourself. It's up to you how you build that but be sure to have that impression backed by examples and experience of your work. I'm at a tech meetup. I overheard one of the co-hosts discussing her "women in tech" initiatives, for example hosting a hackathon with all women judges because so many hackathons are judged by all, or nearly all men. Another guy also overheard and butted in. He really challenged her hard on why she'd do this. Shouldn't she strive for 50/50? Isn't she being exclusionary? He went on to joke (I think) the event should be boycotted as anti-men. Ok, so, look— fellow fellas, don't be that guy. If you don't want to go, then don't. But crusading against women creating exposure for women, in a sea of events full of men, is not the way. (But it sure is easier to punch down, isn't it?) Don't make somebody's challenges the target of your joke... By the way: later, another guy challenged this same woman on whether she could even code, as a meetup host (after she'd introduced herself as a technical founder & engineer). In both cases she handled it with the grace of somebody who's very clearly heard it all before. But you can see the grimace behind the smile. #womenintech #dei #fightbias

As I reflect on my journey into the world of software development, I can't help but feel immense gratitude for the incredible community I've found through Women Who Code. 💻✨ For the past year, I've had the privilege of volunteering with Women Who Code, hosting monthly study groups covering a range of topics in web development such as React, complex Javascript topics, and algorithms. These study groups aren't just about learning new skills; they're about fostering a supportive and inclusive environment for women breaking into the tech field. Being part of this community has been transformative for me. Not only have I had the opportunity to share my knowledge and support others on their learning journeys, but I've also been continuously inspired by the passion and determination of the women I've met along the way. Attending meetups and events organized by Women Who Code has provided me with invaluable networking opportunities, mentorship, and friendships that have aided my growth in software development. Whether it's collaborating sharing resources, or simply encouraging one another, the sense of camaraderie within this community is truly unparalleled. 🌐❤️ Through Women Who Code, I've not only honed my technical skills but also developed the confidence and resilience needed to navigate the challenges of the tech industry. I've learned that success isn't just about individual achievements; it's about lifting each other up and creating space for all voices to be heard. As I continue on my journey, I'm excited to pay it forward and empower more women to pursue their dreams in tech.
