Is there a proficient lawyer in Quebec, or perhaps even the country, who is knowledgeable about (RLRQ c. B-1, г.3.1) and capable of guaranteeing that the Syndic du Barreau du Quebec complies with its legal and ethical duties as prescribed by law? To the Barreau du Quebec: all Canadians are entitled to fair justice! For years, I have tried to contact you to explain how corrupt the Quebec Bar Association, for which you are responsible! The majority of lawyers who bill by the hour allow all sorts of abuses: disregard for their mandate and their code of ethics, systematic preference for opposing parties with influential lawyers, whether they represent millionaires, criminals, or other lawyers. They use their clients' money to build a network of contacts to continue exploiting their clients for their own profit. Wake up and do your job! Veterans also have the right to fair justice, like all citizens. It seems to suggest that everyone can act according to their own interests, regardless of the consequences for the law and ethics. Is this a source of pride for you? i want to emphasize that my intention is not to seek revenge or commit any unlawful acts against my lawyers. Instead, I aim to illustrate the importance of empathy and understanding. I want them to realize the impact of their actions and consider how they would feel if their client treated them the way they treated me. The message your institution conveys to the public is concerning, as it implies that individuals can prioritize their own interests over legal and ethical standards. I will continue to inform the public every day about the shortcomings of the Quebec Bar Association, the syndic of the Quebec Bar Association, and the Bâtonnière, who have all forgotten their role and responsibility. It seems more profitable for them to intimidate clients than to pay for the shortcomings of unscrupulous lawyers. Do you not feel ashamed to see that a veteran has a personal and professional aesthetic superior to that of the majority of lawyers who rotate at all hours in Quebec? If I were in your shoes, I would feel deep shame. The message your institution sends to the population is crystal clear: everyone seems free to act as they please, regardless of the rules and ethical principles, as long as it serves their financial interests, especially those of unscrupulous lawyers and your unethical bar! Is this the vision of justice that you proudly defend? Are you not afraid that the population, pushed to the brink, will end up engaging in the same reprehensible acts as your lawyers? Although violence and crime can never be justified, the population may find itself with no other choice but to seek some form of justice. For now, it continues to show resilience and seek solutions within the confines of the law. But one day, lacking alternatives, the population may be forced to confront you and the Quebec Bar Association with violence. Is this the outcome you seek? Can anyone at the Supreme Court answer me?
This week, Chief Justice Wagner sat down with the Canadian Bar Association’s (CBA) President John Stefaniuk, K.C., to discuss access to justice, the rule of law and judicial independence. The Supreme Court of Canada and the Canadian Bar Association have a long-standing tradition of collaboration with the goal of advancing the legal profession.

Issue 4 of Vol. 54 is available on our website! In our first article, Professor Kat Albrecht, JD, PhD and Kaitlyn Filip, share their findings from a study of perspectives on virtual judicial proceedings. Their survey addresses an important and often-overlooked perspective—that of non-practitioners in the legal system. Their study asks important questions about how the public at large views virtual court proceedings. Specifically, their survey focuses on the Cook County court system in Illinois, where many proceedings have been conducted online since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic. Their survey presents important findings about what the public sees as the benefits and pitfalls of virtual court, and it elevates voices not often heard when these issues are discussed.
