🌿 Approximately one third of BAT’s Scope 3 CO2e emissions are in the tobacco supply chain, which requires building an integrated approach addressing impacts across the value chain and the total lifecycle of products. BAT Brazil is an example that partnerships with suppliers (tobacco growers) is an important path to achieve emissions reductions. BAT regularly review and model farmers’ carbon impact and sequestration potential. Recently, BAT conducted an analysis to estimate the removals generated by Carbon-Smart Farming best practices using internationally recognised methods such as those outlined by the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) and the GHG Protocol. 🌍 Join us at our annual Sustainability Conference and find out how business can meet the challenge of delivering sustainable supply chains: https://bit.ly/4dbyCsP If you would like to know more about ICC and what we do to promote sustainability, please get in touch. Change your logistics and you can reduce emissions Many times we are under the impression that new technologies are the only way to reduce emissions. By reviewing the purchase history of a given country, we can consolidate shipments. This translates into savings in freight and reduction in CO2 emissions. Lessons learned: Changes in logistics matter Sustainability Leaders | A World 50 Group Community Supply Chain Management Review Magazine
PAHO aims to reduce GHG emissions from the transportation and distribution of procured goods by 50% by 2030. ⬇️ Here is how the organization plans on accomplishing its goal. Fourth Strategy to reduce CO2 emissions. 🔸 Combine Orders to Reduce Shipments: PAHO will consolidate product demand from member states to minimize repeat shipments and better use shipping loads. 🔸 Use Efficient Delivery Centers: PAHO will deliver goods through their distribution centers or those of third parties or suppliers in sub-regions. 🔸 Choose Eco-Friendly Shipping Routes: The PAHO Revolving and Strategic Fund will prioritize using green corridors for sea shipments to work towards achieving a 5% maritime industry zero-emission fuel utilization goal. if you have Stop by any of my Post across Media platforms in the last 3 months, I have consistently used a phrase "Circular Economy Ecosystem". It can't be overemphasized, thus permit me to reiterate it here. The Circular Economy Ecosystem is getting to it peak performance height with the short intervals of stakeholders gathering in Nigeria. Many thanks to Circular Business Platform and Consulate General of the Netherlands in Lagos for the proactive steps and impact driven engagements. #CEStrategyWeek24

We're pleased to share your #FridayFix 🌾 Back in our first Friday Fix in March we shared news of Tesco and NatWest launching a sustainable finance scheme for farmers. Now Waitrose & Partners has unveiled its ambitions to help 2,000+ of its supplier farmers to adopt #regenerativefarming practices, and to certify all of its fresh produce growers under LEAF (Linking Environment And Farming). Waitrose has been trialling #regenerativeagriculture practices at Leckford Estate farm in Hampshire since 2020. Going forward, the farm will act as a permanent ‘centre of excellence’ for these initiatives. 👉 https://lnkd.in/edMu_j7N ⚡️ Following the announcement of its first-quarter earnings on Tuesday, and amid low natural gas prices, BP’s CEO hinted strongly at doubling down on low carbon investments, even when it’s causing the company to be undervalued. This decision highlights the future for renewables growth is strong, despite the fact the market hasn’t quite wrapped its head around renewables development being cyclical, just like other energy sources have historically been. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eR-djg9N 🛩️ Virgin Atlantic’s first ever transatlantic flight by a commercial airline using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) is revealed to have a reduced C02 emissions use of 64%. The SAF used for ‘Flight100’ was made from a blend of 88% Hydroprocessed Esters and Fatty Acids (HEFA), which utilises waste fats, oils, and greases as feedstock, and 12% synthetic aromatic kerosene (SAK), derived from plant sugars. A statement by Virgin said that while the success of the flight is a pivotal moment, there’s more work to be done to scale the use of SAF for the decarbonisation of long-haul flights. 👉 https://lnkd.in/eguHbSTc 📇 Less exciting than breakthrough innovations, but no less important - the #IFRS and #EFRAG have announced the publication of the ESRS-ISSB standards interoperability guidance, a new document illustrating high-level alignment between the sustainability reporting standards recently issued by ISSB and ESRS. The guidance also includes support for companies complying with both sets of sustainability reporting standards. 👉 https://lnkd.in/dE5KNHeZ #CSRD #ESG #sustainability

This isn't just another business deal – it's a significant step forward for both CMA CGM and Nestlé. Wondering why? Well, there are two key reasons that make this collaboration more than just a celebration of a commercial partnership. Quick recap: What's the deal? In a nutshell, Nestlé has opted to replace fossil fuels, primarily VLSFO, with second-generation biofuel (made from waste) for transporting all their containers with us. Our ACT+ products facilitate this transition, ensuring compliance with existing norms and best practices, all audited and reviewed by an external auditor. Reason 1 - It's a Game-Changer: This deal isn't just a drop in the ocean; it's massive. Over 70kt CO2 reduced, and Nestlé is fully committed, covering all their shipments with us. In 2023, this move is bold, sending a clear signal that some of our customers – not just a small, marginal group – are eager to move faster than regulatory requirements. Reason 2 - Public Commitment: Nestlé has agreed to make this commitment public. It might seem counterintuitive, as many major customers are usually hesitant to publicly announce their eco-friendly initiatives, fearing accusations of greenwashing. Having Nestlé as a prominent name allows us to bring the carbon footprint discussion to the forefront of all our customer interactions. Going public puts pressure on everyone – Cargo Owners, Carriers, and regulators alike. While it doesn't magically solve the climate change issue, it's undeniably a step in the right direction. Stay tuned for what's next – we're already working on the next big step! 🌍🚢 #SustainableShipping #ClimateAction #MovingForward
In a major ACT with CMA CGM+ agreement, Nestlé is now powering 100% of its CMA CGM volumes with biofuel, a fuel that generates 84% fewer carbon emissions, resulting in 70Kt CO2 avoided every year. 🌱 “𝘙𝘦𝘢𝘤𝘩𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘯𝘦𝘵 𝘻𝘦𝘳𝘰 𝘳𝘦𝘲𝘶𝘪𝘳𝘦𝘴 𝘤𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘨𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘮𝘢𝘯𝘺 𝘢𝘴𝘱𝘦𝘤𝘵𝘴 𝘰𝘧 𝘩𝘰𝘸 𝘸𝘦 𝘴𝘰𝘶𝘳𝘤𝘦, 𝘮𝘢𝘬𝘦, 𝘢𝘯𝘥 𝘥𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘣𝘶𝘵𝘦 𝘰𝘶𝘳 𝘱𝘳𝘰𝘥𝘶𝘤𝘵𝘴. 📢The #GlobalGreenDeal has launched! Together with SOLIDAR & SOLIDAR Foundation, Fairtrade International, World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) and World Fair Trade Organization (WFTO) - Europe, we are excited to share our Call to Action to transform the #EuropeanGreenDeal into a Global Green Deal to make it more social, equitable, just & fair at the international level 🌱 In its current form, the European Green Deal leads to environmentally and socially harmful impacts on the Global South and exacerbates, rather than eliminates, inequality and poverty. 👉 The Global Green Deal vision is of an inclusive European transformative agenda that firmly assumes its responsibilities vis-à-vis third and partner countries with regard to imposed externalities. The #GGD is a Green Deal with an external dimension to guarantee a #Fair distribution of the transition costs between Europe and partner countries. Our 5 proposed policy transformations are: ➡ Boosting access to high-quality, affordable and long-term financing from both official and private sources in order to give partner countries the chance to implement climate mitigation and adaptation, and support their efforts on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) ➡ A binding Just Transition strategy ➡ A policy coherence for sustainable development with a continued reform of the EU Trade policy and a major political focus on reducing the spillover effects ➡ Mainstreaming Fair Trade (FT) practices and Fair Trade Enterprises to equalise benefits throughout international supply chains ➡ Turning the Green Deal into a driver of change of the EU economic model 🔗 Read our proposal and the required measures now: https://lnkd.in/eudaAYXX
