Hey folks, Well, the final election results are in and a new government can finally be formed. Given our circumstances (lack of funding, Ilam focus and being airbrushed out of the media coverage of the election campaign), I think we had a decent result, particularly with 3 electorates at 5% or higher with the party vote. It was an uphill battle. Ilam didn’t go our way but nearly 11,000 electorate votes is not to be sneezed at 👍 The ‘wasted vote’ issue remains a hurdle, as does the 5% threshold. That’s not likely to change, regardless of the recommendations of the Independent Electoral Review (out soon). The question now is what next for TOP - The Opportunities Party (and what next for me!). We are doing some thinking on those questions and will make some decisions by the end of the month. Thank you all for your support and feedback through the last 12 months. It’s been a heck of a ride and very hard work. I do feel like we brought a different approach, a fresh voice and some new ideas. Those won’t go away, and neither will the immense challenges we are facing as a country. Democracy is about both participation and representation and I think we played a constructive part in the expression of those ideals. They remain critical principles that underpin a healthy society. As to the next government, I wish them well in their endeavors and hope they can get to grips with the underinvestment in our core public services and infrastructure. 3 years is not long so some focus may be required 🧐 Stay tuned for further updates!
The final results are in! The Opportunities Party is the largest party outside of Parliament, and we received the highest number of party votes in our Party’s history. Thank you to everyone who voted for a fresh voice 🙏

80% of voters don't vote in primaries, so the 20% that vote in primaries determine the choices available in the general election, from only party candidates. Here's an example of open primaries and ranked choice voting, now in Alaska, that not only gives voice to the many voters that don't want to designate or align with a party, but also makes available independent candidates as well. Might encourage more to participate in deciding how we live! https://lnkd.in/gsh5gkC7

🤣🤣🤣While passion and sentiment undoubtedly play a role in shaping our political beliefs, relying solely on emotions to guide our voting decisions can have detrimental consequences for the future of our country. It is imperative that we, as citizens, exercise critical thinking and rationality when casting our votes, rather than succumbing to the allure of charismatic personalities or fleeting promises. Pauline Njoroge's potential candidacy serves as a litmus test for the maturity of our democracy. As voters, we must evaluate candidates based on their qualifications, integrity, and vision for the nation, rather than being swayed by superficial factors. The ability to govern effectively requires more than just popularity or charm; it demands competence, knowledge, and a genuine commitment to serving the interests of the people.

CAN YOU HEAR IT? IT'S DEMOCRACY BEING FLUSHED DOWN THE TOILET The one thing Americans have rarely done during elections is believe what the politicians say they will do. But that has changed with recent elections, beginning with the 2016 campaign for the presidency, when Donald Trump made promises that, when he was elected, he tried to impose on America -- sometimes successfully, sometimes not. In the 2024 campaign, Trump is promising, along with his conservative Republican "friends", to end American democracy and impose an autocracy like that in Hungary and Russia. Along with the Heritage Foundation's detailed Project 2025, Trump is preparing to flush America and American democracy, as we have built it over the past 247 years, down the toilet. This is sufficient reason to vote Blue in 2024.
