Should China invade Taiwan, the strain on supply chains experienced during Covid19 will pale in comparison to the impacts on shipping. The world requires highly capable US Naval ships and cannot rely on the adversarial nation, which necessitates such capabilities, to supply the microchips that power them. In the latest aerial arsenal development, the Air Force has deployed the B-61-12 tactical nuclear bomb on its fleet of 20 B-2 Spirit stealth bombers. These high-tech flying wing jets, part of the 509th Bomb Wing based at Whiteman Air Force Base, are set to redefine strategic capabilities. By 2025, approximately 480 B61-12s are expected to replace B61-4 bombs, making their mark across various aircraft, including the B-2's successor, the B-21 Raider, F-35 Lightning II stealth fighters, F-16 Fighting Falcon tactical jet fighters, and more. Most of these aircraft have already test-dropped the B61-12, showcasing its versatility. Our Military Engineering team, together with British Army’s Experimentation & Trials Group, Strategic Command Operational Energy Authority and the Dstl, have been visiting #industry this week conducting further research and fact finding as we gather information to support our deployable field power project. Bladon Micro Turbine, principally (but not exclusively) supply the global telecoms industry with off-grid power solutions where access and fuel qualities are particularly challenging. It's official, the Northrop Grumman-made B-21 Raider has entered production after successful ground and flight tests at Edwards Air Force Base in California! At this current stage of low-rate production, Northrop Grumman has built or is in the process of building at least six test B-21s, with the Air Force's goal of fielding a fleet of at least 100 Raiders and the first entering service within the next few years. By the 2030s, the B-21 Raider is set to replace the aging B-1B Lancer and B-2 Spirit and be part of a two-bomber fleet comprised of these B-21 Raiders and another 76 of the upgraded B-52J Stratofortresses. Ellsworth Air Force Base in South Dakota is set to receive the first active B-21 Raider, with delivery expected to take place in the mid-2020s. Additionally, photographs have shown the B-21's nickname painted on its landing gear door -- Cerberus, the beastly multi-headed dog that guards the gates of Hades in Greek mythology. At a projected procurement cost of $692 million each, the Raider's advanced stealth capabilities will allow it to carry out "penetrating deep strike missions against advanced adversaries" with capabilities of carrying both conventional and nuclear weapons. Next year, the Australian military and the U.S. Defense Department will collaborate on hypersonic experiments, the Pentagon’s chief technology officer said. This technology is part of the second phase of AUKUS, a trilateral agreement between Australia, the U.S. and the UK. The first phase of AUKUS was about developing nuclear submarines, while the second phase is about working on advanced technologies such as hypersonics, quantum computing, autonomy and electronic warfare. The two countries have been doing hypersonic research for over 15 years. They completed a secret 10-year project in 2017, called HiFiRE. In 2020, they started a new project called SCIFiRE, which aimed to create a missile that can fly at Mach 5, using a scramjet engine that breathes air, and that can be launched from a fighter jet. This involves co-operation between the US Air Force and the Royal Australian Air Force In our assessment, the market for hypersonic weapons has few competitors. All of the companies in this sector are huge corporations with well-established brand names and firm grips on technology, accumulated expertise, and proprietary designs. The sector's competition is mostly driven from these few companies bidding on new contracts. Because of the nature of hypersonic weapon systems, the expenses to enter the hypersonic weapons industry are greater than in other sectors, particularly when safety regulations add extra layers to the design of equipment and/or facilities. Due to quantity-distance constraints and explosion-proofing of equipment and structures, every firm storing or utilising energetic elements, for example, requires bigger property investments.
