BIG’s Housing Co-op Initiative took shape in 2023 as housing changemakers recognized the potential of deep collaboration to expand opportunities for community governance of housing and the creation of housing co-operatives. This peer learning initiative created space to share, ask questions, meet partners and advance shared goals around cooperatively managed housing. Keep an eye out as this work evolves in 2024. EARMARKS: We don't know when the Earmarks will be announced, but we know it'll be here before you know it, and then you'll have to move quickly! Get a leg up by watching this webinar from the National Safe and Healthy Housing Coalition, "Using Earmark Funding for Healthy Housing." Watch it here: https://lnkd.in/erwhcHDj. Description: In 2021, Congress resumed funding individual projects at the community level, through Community Project Funding/Congressionally Directed Spending (also known as "earmarks"). There have now been two complete cycles of federal appropriations that have included earmarks, and several states and localities have used this funding to support work to improve housing quality and address environmental hazards. In this webinar, a panel of organizations who have applied for or received this funding reflect on their experiences with the process and how their projects will support healthy homes. The webinar also describes how the earmark process works and how to navigate it as an applicant. Presenters: • Ruth Ann Norton, President and CEO, Green & Healthy Homes Initiative, Baltimore, MD. • Jolene Lyon, President and CEO, Bering Straits Regional Housing Authority, Nome, AK. • Lisa Ramsey, Deputy Director, Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership, Warren, OH. #Congress #Earmarks #Appropriations #HealthyHomes #HealthyHousing #PublicHealth #EnvironmentalHealth #LeadPoisoning #Asthma #OlderAdults

On May 6th join us for our latest groundbreaking Sister Cities Project (Eco)Exchange 31: Reimagining Community & Being A Neighbor will take a deep look at how to build more equitable communities in San Diego County and beyond by focusing on the ecosystem of a community. An ecosystem including three critical areas: jobs, small business growth, and community engagement both within and outside of the community. By collaborating as neighbors and addressing these issues, we can foster greater empathy and understanding, leading to solutions that promote economic development in underserved areas and reduce racism through real conversations and action. This important discussion will be moderated by Sister Cities Project founder Shawn McClondon with an expert panel that includes Deona Dorsey from San Diego Workforce Partnership, the largest workforce development organization in San Diego County, Sheri Jones, Co-Founder of Black San Diego, Empowering our Community , Dr. James Wright, Assistant Professor at SDSU and Author on the Legacy of the Great Migration and Educational Inequities and Dr. Mai Thi Nguyen, Director & Professor, The Design Lab, UC San Diego and World Design Capital San Diego Tijuana 2024 committee member. -> Learn more & get your ticket here: https://lnkd.in/gE29VYmn Our (Eco)Exchanges bring groups of residents from affluent neighborhoods to under-resourced neighborhoods to support local businesses, visit important sites within the community and have discussions with residents, business owners, community leaders and city officials about how communities within a Sister Cities Partnership can support one another. Sister Cities Project was founded by Shawn McClondon and born to create formal partnerships between affluent communities and underserved communities to build a new relationship to deepen cultural understanding between those communities. -> Learn more about SCP here: https://lnkd.in/gh2GmUPJ #sistercitiesproject #diversity #diversityandinclusion #DiversityEquityInclusion #solanabeach #carmelvalley #cityheightssd #delmar #SoutheasternSanDiego #Ecosystems #workforcedevelopent #smallbusiness #communitydevelopment #communty #event #sandiego #encinitas #goodneighbor #equity #communityequity #racialequity #sandiegocounty
