Did you know that the 2024 deadline to donate has been extended? Due to the challenges faced by nonprofits during the postal strike, donations made until February 28th 2025 can now count towards your 2024 tax return! This means there is still time to help us achieve our goal of $7000 for wellness and exercise equipment for folks in our Residential Program. We're already 77% of the way there, and with an additional 36 more days to reach our goal we're hopeful we can achieve it! But we need your support. 💪 While these funds will already make a huge impact for our clients, reaching our goal will allow us to take our efforts to the next level.🧡 If 11 community members each donate $150, we’ll hit our goal! 🎉 If you're not in a position to donate right now, that’s okay too- please consider sharing this post with your network. Your voice can inspire others to get involved! 🫶To donate scan the QR code or visit: https://lnkd.in/eEjT2YQ5 📌To learn more about the deadline extension please visit: https://lnkd.in/dU3VJg5g #ItTakesACommunity #HopeInHealing #AddictionRecovery #GuelphNonprofits

Do THIS. You can start NOW. You’ll want to pass this on even if you don’t have kids! Clear out your children's old toys in the lead up to Christmas rather than after! Why? Because charity shops see a number of strapped for cash parents in the days before Christmas - looking for toys for their little ones. There's very rarely anything in just before, but they get inundated with toys in the days after. No-cost to you to help! If you know your children will get lots from Santa this year, clear out your cupboards a few days early. You could make another child's Christmas a lot more special too. IDEA! … Why not do a reverse advent calendar with your kids in November? Each day, get them to pop one toy into a box for a charity shop. Start on 7th November and they have a boxful to donate on 1st December. That’s when they open the first door on their real advent calendar. Great activity to do with the kids that also teaches them about the gift of giving to a charity shop. They’ll feel really proud of themselves. Let’s keep it going! Got no kids? Who do you know who has?

👇 Top tips for charities on claiming Gift Aid: 1. Make sure the Gift Aid declaration identifies the donation properly, as this is often overlooked. This can also include past donations (up to four years) and future donations until further notice. 2. Where there is a change of personnel, you must update HMRC with details of the authorised officials relating to Gift Aid claims via a “ChV1” form. This is often overlooked and can invalidate claims. You can have up to two authorised officials. 3. Although not yet mandated, start collecting donors’ full first name, rather than just their initials, if you don’t already. This will save you having to go back to all your existing donors to get this information to continue making valid claims. 4. Don’t forget to remind higher rate and additional rate taxpayers that they can also claim additional tax relief from HMRC – this may help encourage more generous donations. Should you need further support on Gift Aid, reach out to our tax team for specialist advice.
