🔹 Founder & CEO @ New Politics 🔹 I recruit & help elect transformational leaders who have committed their lives to serving our country 🔹 Politico 50 Power Players
Two things we’ve learned about hiring: 1. Nobody gives bad references. 2. One toxic person can impact the entire office. If you want to know if someone's good, you have to do your due diligence. Our hiring techniques are based on “Good to Great” by Jim Collins. According to him, these are the most important things to do when you’re hiring: - Be clear about your expectations and priorities. - Interview, interview, interview! You must be clear about what core values you want in people, for better or worse. And the interview is critical. At New Politics, my whole team is trained in behavior-based interviewing so potential employees can show us how they would fit into our organization. Finding the right person to join your team is crucial as the organization moves forward.

How do you approach past workplace issues when interviewing? It’s crucial to remain objective and avoid blaming others. Focus on what was done to resolve the problem, particularly your role in addressing it. Admitting your own mistakes may seem risky, but seasoned interviewers value this transparency. They know the many factors that can influence a situation and will respect your integrity and problem-solving approach. Taking ownership and suggesting ways you could have improved the situation will make you stand out as a candidate of good character and self-awareness. . . . #hiring #construction #bybmym

My top tip for attracting the best talent! Too many calls, videocalls, meetings, rearrangements, and reconfirmations tend to repel candidates, complicate calendars, and waste time. So how best to be thorough, without promoting these unnecessary interview stages? I’d suggest the best way of maximising the interaction you have with your applicants is by talking to them: learn their interests, skills, and passions via a maximum of two meaningful meetings.
