Hydrogen has emerged as a key technology in building a greener future. But even new technologies might be prone to repeating old mistakes, such as being complicit in human rights abuses in the green transition policies. This was one of the takeaways from last week's Nordic Hydrogen Valleys as Energy Hubs Conference. On the other hand, the #hydrogen industry, still in its relative infancy, has the opportunity to mark a departure from the past and proactively take responsibility - especially when governments fail to provide functional legal frameworks, as is the case in the Nordics. We can learn from the past and from current practices that emerge in the absence of functional legal frameworks. SEI's Rasmus Kløcker Larsen shared his knowledge on including local communities in decision making processes based on his research on the Indigenous Sámi lands in the north of Sweden and the ongoing research on negotiated agreements between developers and Sámi reindeer herding communities. The Australian Government’s 2024 National Hydrogen Strategy provides the framework to: • Guide Australia on the path to becoming a global hydrogen leader by 2030 • Enable domestic decarbonisation through the development of the hydrogen industry • Ensure economic benefit for all Australians through the development of the hydrogen industry. The strategy identifies 4 objectives, supported by 34 actions: • supply: the hydrogen industry supplies globally cost-competitive hydrogen • demand: activating the most prospective domestic demand sectors for hydrogen-based decarbonisation • community benefit: communities are aware of and can realise the benefits of hydrogen • trade, investment and partnerships: establish trade at scale and leverage purposeful partnerships. The National Hydrogen Strategy was created through collaboration with various stakeholders, including state and territory governments, industry representatives, and input from a multidisciplinary advisory group. 🌍 Exciting times at the Belgian Hydrogen Council Conference, deliberating how Belgium is driving the EU’s hydrogen value chain! 🚀 Hydrogen is a game-changer for our green transition, but to ensure its success—whether locally or globally—we need substantial public funding. Investment in infrastructure, innovation, and scaling up clean hydrogen production will make it competitive, sustainable, and accessible. 🌱 Public funding isn't just a boost for local economies, but a vital push for the global hydrogen economy. Without it, the vision of a net-zero, hydrogen-powered future will remain out of reach. From our office in #Brussels Hezelburcht Grant & Funding Consultancy / FirstBlue Grant & Funding Consultancy are happy to help you figure out the local and global funding opportunities. #HydrogenEconomy #CleanEnergy #PublicFunding #GreenTransition #EUHydrogenValueChain #Sustainability
