Today we welcomed a new participant into the Australian advanced materials and battery ecosystem – The Australian Battery Supply Chain Database. This excel spreadsheet lists companies in Australia that are already, or plan to be, active in supply to local and global battery supply chains. The Australian Battery Supply Chain Database is a small step toward growing collaborative networks in Australia. It was at an AMBC networking meeting in February 2023 that members identified that a tool of this nature would be valuable for the industry. The AMBC approached the Queensland Manufacturing Institute/Industry Capability Network to help identify potential companies in the supply chain and the Queensland Government to support its development. If you are a company looking for an opportunity in the global battery supply chain, make sure that you are listed in the database. If you are not there, contact ICN Gateway and let them know that you need to be included at the next update. And why is the Australian Battery Supply Chain Database important? New industry sectors are not conjured up from new technology and eager investors. Through the decades, governments in Japan, Taiwan, South Korea and China have constructed industry ecosystems through belief in their capacity to be globally competitive and fostering collaboration through industry policy to build that capacity. This is the Power of Policy. Thank you Minister Glenn Butcher, Department of Regional Development, Manufacturing and Water, Queensland Manufacturing Institute (QMI), Advanced Materials and Battery Council (AMBC) and Centre for Policy Futures, UQ for facilitating collaboration to develop this database.

The battery supply chain journey has been an interesting one to follow... how do we deal with constraints, shortages, provenance/digital thread... all very cool problems to solve, and all also circular supply chain related :-) Coming together in industry groups to solve problems is a major accelerator - even the big companies often turn to these groups to find scale and partnership in overcoming barriers and changing behaviors. This idea of "coopetition" is one that Douglas and I explore in our book (Sustainable Supply Chain Orchestration), particularly around this type of industry coalition. How does your supply chain engage in these types of groups? https://lnkd.in/eQWkfkwe

What is the future of the envelope industry? Where is the industry headed? The answers may be as varied as the number of companies in our industry. No one has a crystal ball. We recently sat down with our President, Paul Goelzer, Jr., to get his thoughts on what is next. Take a moment to listen to what he says.

Having recently published a paper in partnership with Syncron exploring the need to rethink our approaches to industrial pricing in the face of ongoing disruption across the manufacturing sector, Field Service News Editor-in-Chief Kris Oldland reflects on the most salient points that emerged from this exploration of what is an increasingly important discussion. Our new article features his top ten takeaways from the report. In it, he zooms in on the limitations of the cost-plus model, the complexities of spare parts pricing, the need to embrace intelligence pricing in the manufacturing industry and more. Included as well are reflections from the many conversations he's had with industry leaders on this topic. U.S. politicians of both parties have a unique way of screwing things up, such as the supply chain, and have little insight into "how to put the genie back in the bottle!" The disruption of the global supply chain that has occurred will take 5 to 25 years to transform.
