We are saddened to hear of the recent passing of actress Shannen Doherty and our deepest sympathy goes out to her family and friends today. Her death reminds us of the vital work which still needs to be done in order to raise awareness around Secondary (Metastatic) Breast Cancer. Our CEO, Samantha Dixon said: "Shannen’s journey with this devastating disease has touched countless lives and underscores the urgent need for greater awareness and understanding of secondary breast cancer, also known as metastatic, advanced or stage 4. Despite all efforts, this deadly disease - which currently affects an estimated 67,000 people in the UK alone  - has no cure and still remains largely unknown. Our aim at Make 2nds Count is to raise awareness about secondary breast cancer, to advocate for better care and to invest money into vital secondary breast research, as well as offer support to everyone who is affected by it. It will be so meaningful to share the stage with my husband and best friend in all things, Rett Walden, as we share our story with the Dickies family on October 12th. Sarcoma Awareness Month is a great time to recognize and amplify voices in the sarcoma community who are driving progress. Two of those areas of big progress is in providing information about this rare cancer for those who are navigating it, and conducting research to find better outcomes and possibly even a cure. The Sarcoma Insight Podcast is hosted by two dedicated members of the musculoskeletal oncology community - Dr. Elyse Brinkmann and Dr. Izuchukwu Ibe. Since 2021, their podcast has been providing helpful information to the sarcoma community regarding so many aspects of the disease. Dr. Brinkman and Dr. Ibe share their knowledge and perspective, AND they amplify voices from the sarcoma community...all so that people who are navigating sarcoma have more access to resources. This month, they hosted Dr. Matthew DiCaprio who leads Sarcoma Strong, a group he founded to provide resources for his local sarcoma community and to fund pivotal research. This research, now in partnership with the Musculoskeletal Tumor Society, is making great progress towards better outcomes in sarcoma. Being just 3 days from celebrating my 10th sobriety anniversary (God willing), it's very serendipitous to share this episode of the Sober-Ish Uprising Podcast with Holly Kivo.
