Key in the utilisation of hydrogen-based fuels and scarce renewable carbon resources in specific parts of the transport system and industry requires a scale of investment beyond the traditional willingness of the public sector. To succeed, a reduction in uncertainty and achievement of cost parity between alternative green and fossil fuels, is needed. This involves: • A clear and stable path as to which fuels besides direct electrification to target, which preferably is already global commodity e.g. Hydrogen, Ammonia, Methanol and biooil. • Drastically increasing the availability of green hydrogen as well as increasing its utilisation both directly and as a basis for production of green fuels. Last Wednesday I brought ReFuel Solutions' perspective to the "Investing in the Energy Transition" event in Milan, organized by inspiratia in partnership with Bird & Bird and Legance. Our session explored the crucial role of biofuels in the ongoing shift towards sustainable energy, addressing how they are often underestimated or taken for granted in the transition discussion. During the panel, I highlighted that while biofuels aren't a "silver bullet," they're currently our most effective tool in the energy transition. Their practicality, compatibility with existing infrastructure, immediate CO2 reduction potential, proven technology, and economic viability make them a key component of our sustainable future, offering attractive ROI and lower CAPEX requirements compared to other green technologies. We discussed the challenges and opportunities in the sector, particularly scaling sustainable feedstock supply and exploring new feedstocks and technologies to boost operational efficiency. It was great to share the stage with Carlotta Trucillo from ASSITOL - Associazione Italiana dell'Industria Olearia, Monica Foschi from Pika Energy, and as moderator Ashkenaz A L from inspiratia. These discussions are vital for advancing sustainable energy solutions.

We have a great announcement to make: MOL Group has updated its long-term strategy SHAPE TOMORROW that aims to transform the company into a greener, more self-sufficient and more competitive player of the region. In the center of the updated strategy lies the concept of smart transition which amidst the rapidly changing external environment enable us to deliver tomorrow’s solutions by fostering the green transition without losing sight of the region’s security of supply. With this approach, we’ll be able to reach carbon neutrality by 2050. We will: • spend more than $4 billion on green investments by 2030  • strengthen our refineries with 150 million USD in efficiency improvements and invest in oil processing resilience • create value from waste and potentially provide 1.5 million tons of feedstock per annum to the regional oil, chemical and energy sector from 2030 • reinforce E&P’s green projects and slow down natural decline in production • will achieve in our Consumer Services business segment an annual EBITDA of $1 billion by 2030, and will continue to transform our service stations as well as further expand our e-charging stations • place a greater emphasis on renewable fuels, green hydrogen, biomethane and geothermal energy For more details about MOL Group’s strategy update click here: https://lnkd.in/embcziA

Re-use and re-purpose existing infrastructure to support efficient solutions - one of the key recommendations in recent report by European Net Zero Alliance Suggest in Europe we have a huge opportunity to re-use and re-purpose our existing fleet of hydrogen capable E and F class gas turbines, supplied with green hydrogen via our re- purposed hydrogen capable European gas pipeline network. My aim is to provide a quick outlook on why Italy decided to focus on biofuels in the context of the tools that we want to use to achieve our common the ambitious transition goals. Italy aims at realizing an ecological, not ideological, and just transition. We believe sustainable and climate-neutral fuels play a key role in the sustainable, just and inclusive energy transition which aim to reach net-zero emissions future. Moreover, sustainable biofuels, represent a crucial sector to strengthen the diversification and the security of energy supply that is at the center of a sustainable energy transition based on circular and sustainable economy approach.
