📊 Check out this insightful visual and share your views on human factor associated. The variance in energy coefficients versus altitude for hydropower projects in Spain highlights some key factors: 🌊 Water Availability & Topography (#beyond human control). 💰 Cost , influenced by construction duration (#within human control). ✅Construction duration a crucial role in managing Cost. ✅Use of real time monitering integrated with BIM in planning, design and construction can only eliminate traditional nature of delays. Chief Executive Officer at Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL) and host of the Schweitzer Drive podcast
It was great talking with Rick Dunn, general manager at Benton PUD about the importance of hydroelectric power in the Pacific Northwest energy mix. "...Our hydropower is like nowhere else in the United States," says Rick. "And I'm not sure people get that...Washington State's annual energy portfolio is about 60 percent hydro. The rest of the country is 60 percent fossil fuels, from a generation standpoint. The balance of the country gets six percent of their electricity from hydro. So, we were in a whole different ballgame. When you look at primary energy across all sectors, hydro represents two percent. And so, I just want people know this is an unbelievably unique position that we're in. And especially under 100 percent carbon-free mandates. We shouldn't squander it." Ever wonder how hydropower is generated? Since this month is the 40th anniversary of KRCD’s hydroelectric power plant, we thought we’d use this opportunity to teach you how the Jeff L. Taylor Power Plant produces clean energy! 💡💧 Coming from the Sierra Nevada mountains, the Kings River fills Pine Flat Reservoir and flows into the hydroelectric turbines through large diameter pipes (technically called Penstocks; in our case each unit has a 13.5 feet diameter penstock) into our power plant. That flowing water puts pressure on the turbines causing them to rotate as it passes through. As a result, a generator connected to the rotating turbine produces electricity! To operate the hydroelectric power plant and produce electricity, KRCD holds a Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) license. Obtained in 1979, this FERC license expires in 2029, but KRCD staff are already preparing to renew the license today to continue operating the power plant without interruption for decades to come! #Hydropower #KingsRiver #PineFlat

Hydropower is necessary for providing both baseload power and ramping up to meet peak power demands during times when wind or solar are not available, such as when the sun sets each evening or when the wind dies due to local weather patterns. Hydropower has provided about 300 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity across the U.S. each year since 2010 and is forecast to remain at that level for the next 30 years. #Hydropower #WaterPower #NorthwestPower

❗️ The situation in the hydropower sector as of 17 January: ❗️ 🌊⚡️ Due to the cold snap, Ukrhydroenergo's HPPs and PSPPs operate at maximum capacity to cover peak consumption levels. 🌊⚡️ There are 81 hydroelectric units in operation. According to the schedule, some are out of service for major and minor repairs. 🌊⚡️ The company's branches are ready to deploy "Islands of Heat and Light" (heating points) if necessary. The general situation in the power system: 💡Consumption is increasing due to the cold snap. The deficit in the power system is about 5%. It is crucial to consume electricity rationally. ❗️ We urge you not to overload the power system, especially during peak consumption hours (from 10:00 to 12:00 and from 16:00 to 19:00) ❗️ #HPP #PSPP #Ukrhydroenergo #hydropower #WithHydropower #news #energy #Ukraine

A fantastic depiction showcasing how dams utilize the working principle of hydroelectric power! hydroelectric power is a renewable source of energy that generates power by using a dam or diversion structure to alter the natural flow of a river or other body of water. Hydropower relies on the endless constantly recharging system of the water cycle to produce electricity using a fuel water that is not reduced or eliminated in the process. There are many types of hydropower facilities though they are all powered by the kinetic energy of flowing water as it moves downstream. Hydropower utilizes turbines and generators to convert that kinetic energy into electricity which is then fed into the electrical grid to power homes, businesses, and industries. As today’s hydroelectric facilities age and become more expensive to maintain, our nation risks losing a major source of clean energy and well-paying jobs. Through the Grid Deployment Office’s Hydroelectric Efficiency Improvement Incentives, the U.S. Department of Energy has selected 46 hydroelectric projects to receive up to $71.5 million in incentive payments to increase the generation efficiency of the existing hydropower fleet. Fifteen of those projects are in the Northeast, across Connecticut, Maine, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Rhode Island, and Vermont. With $16.5 million in incentives, these projects aim to: - Upgrade generating units to increase reliability and efficiency - Upgrade trash rake systems to better remove debris - Increase average hydropower plant efficiency by more than 14% - Bring more than 270 #CleanEnergy jobs into communities Learn more about these facilities and how they plan to continue providing clean, affordable electricity to their communities: https://lnkd.in/eqB8bfvn #Hydropower

Have you ever wondered how a river’s journey affects hydroelectric power? A river has a job to complete to answer its call, as represented in Sidney Lanier’s “Song of the Chattahoochee.” The Chattahoochee River has a significant impact on the hydroelectric power Southeastern markets. The river has many uses, with power generation being one of its largest. The United States Corps of Engineers Mobile District generates electric power from four hydroelectric projects through which the Chattahoochee River flows. The four hydroelectric projects associated with Southeastern are Buford Dam, West Point Dam, Walter F. George Lock and Dam, and Jim Woodruff Lock and Dam. In Fiscal Year 2023, these four federal hydroelectric projects generated over 1 Billion kWHs of energy. #SEPAhydro is thankful the Chattahoochee River answers its call when it comes to helping provide the Southeast with hydroelectric power.
