Why do so many organisations still use experience-based hiring? Skills-based hiring triumphs over experience-based hiring. Traditional hiring often misses out on potential high-performing candidates by overvaluing academic and work history. Nevertheless, Test Partnership’s business psychologist Ben Schwencke explains why: Key Points: - Experience-based hiring can be biased and ineffective. - Skills-based hiring removes bias, such as valuing prestigious universities. - Academic background doesn't always reflect true ability. - Transitioning to skills-based hiring requires a shift in mindset and process. It's time to rethink hiring practices. Skills-based hiring is not just a trend but a necessary step towards a fairer and more effective talent acquisition strategy. I believe that hiring someone based on their relevant degree rather than their practical experience can lead to a slower pace of work. When hiring individuals with significant experience, they often bring a rapid work mode, which may clash with the laid-back attitudes of current management. On the other hand, hiring candidates with relevant degrees but less experience might align better with the existing team's dynamics and vision. Current HR practices often emphasize slow, organic growth, which can be detrimental to startups and fast-paced companies. This approach prioritizes "degree acquisition over talent acquisition", which can stifle company growth and innovation. It is crucial that job profiles and descriptions clearly reflect this degree-focused hiring philosophy. By doing so, companies can better align their hiring practices with their growth objectives and avoid the pitfalls of a mismatch between the team's expectations and the company's strategic goals. #Hiring #HR #DegreeOverExperience #TalentAcquisition #CompanyGrowth #Hospitality

GoodTime's 2024 Hiring Insights Report illuminated a lot of the issues talent acquisition specialists face in today's hiring market. What it didn't highlight was how Hire-Train-Deploy models like ours can solve for almost all of these problems. For example: 📌 On average, TA teams hit just 51.3% of their hiring goals in 2023. 📌 44% of TA leaders said hiring became more competitive in the last 12 months, and 27% reported a lack of qualified candidates as a primary hiring challenge. Solution: When candidates are trained using an HTD model, they're not just qualified — they're highly skilled, trained by curriculum that is unique to your business and goals. 📌 A significant 34% of TA leaders cite talent retention as a top challenge. 📌 Layoffs have significantly affected employee morale. 📌 Companies that experienced layoffs in 2023 were about 83% more likely to report fair or poor engagement from employees. Solution: HTD Talent creates the best-in-class Associate Experience including: - starting salaries + raises - relocation - no legal training requirements - complete transparency to client/location/curriculum up-front ...all of which leads to 90+% retention rates 📌 99% of TA teams are now employing AI and automation. 📌 Talent teams still spend 35% of their time scheduling interviews alone, among other easily automated tasks. Solution: Automate hiring by working directly with a HTD provider so TA specialists can better focus on supporting candidates in the pipeline. What issues are you experiencing with hiring? Skills-based hiring isn’t just an aspirational idea; some employers are already taking note and prioritizing finding the right fit for open positions based on skills rather than education or experience. Organizations can take time to review which positions have a legitimate need for a four-year degree or certification and which ones need the appropriate skills. This hiring practice can help expand the talent pool, improve workplace diversity and decrease hiring time. Do you agree?! "The future of work is bright But to make that future a reality, a simpler, faster, and more human approach to hiring needs to happen today." Absolutely right HR Brew ™️ with one caveat - #smallbusiness needs are much different than large corporations. The behemoth monster job boards, staffing agencies and recruiting platforms cater to large corporations because they have money to spend. Oh, they will indeed take money from a small business without regard for the cost. Small businesses and underserved talent definitely need a simpler, faster and more human approach. Exactly what we do. Talents ASCEND® Matching . People . Instantly
