Pets have an extraordinary way of touching our lives, often becoming more than just companions—they become our inspirations. In our latest blog, our Founder and CEO, Bob Wills, reflects on the profound impact his beloved dog, Bailey, had on his life and on our agency's commitment to supporting pet nonprofits. We send our condolences to Bob and his family, and we celebrate the legacy of this amazing furry friend who reminded us all of the power of unconditional love.

#PlannedGiving can include many facets of a #donor's life, and pets are certainly an increasingly common topic of conversation and consideration. All #nonprofit organizations need policies for how they will deal with gifts with "strings" (like care of a pet) and animal-focused charities, in particular, need to be prepared for gift offers with animal care provisions. Will you always say, "no" (or "yes")? Is "yes," dependent upon the gift size/terms? There isn't a right or wrong answer, you just want to make sure you know what you will do so you can communicate that clearly and confidently with potential donors when it comes up. Gift acceptance policy is one of the first things we help organizations address as they launch (or grow) their #legacygiving efforts. https://lnkd.in/epsx8aeh

A week ago, I took a few moments of everybody’s time to post a picture and CHIC (Canine Health Information Center) link to our 10-year-old Great Dane, Fabian. We are preservation breeders with a goal of producing healthy, long live dogs for which we except lifetime responsibility. This is what preservation breeders do. The following post illustrates what happens when people purchase puppies from backyard breeders, pet shops, and online pet wholesalers. This is a copy of a Facebook post made by my wife Cynthia, who operates Community Canines, a 501 C3 organization formed to assist in keeping dogs out of shelters and helping to place them if they end up in a shelter. Please read on: “This is Bella. She will most likely be euthanized in a few days at the Riverside County (Coachella) Shelter. Through no fault of her own, her owners dumped her in the desert after selling her babies. Her hold time will be up in a few days and she will be eligible to kill. If anyone can save her, please do. Someone knows who her owners are and who did this to her and we are trying to get that information from the person who knows so that the barbaric owners can be held accountable for this crime. Until then, Bella's life is on the line and she will probably be dead before we can do much. We cannot take her in because we are full, like most rescues and so are our fosters. We need funds so that we can complete spays/neuters on the dogs we have in care, currently. Once they are spayed/neutered, we can adopt them out. Each time one is adopted, it makes room for one more for us to save. If you cannot adopt or foster, please consider making a monetary donation to us so that we can save more... To donate, please use zelle if possible because there are no fees. If you send us an email after you donate, we can send you a tax deductible, donation receipt. zelle to: donate@communityk9s.org Community Canines a 501(c)(3) Public Benefit Charity - Tax ID # 36-4943438 (The Great Dane Rescue of Southern California is one division of Community Canines, an all-animal rescue) Our mailing address is: 1119 S. Mission Road #354, Fallbrook, Ca 92028 Our Administrative office address is: 26845 Jefferson Avenue, Suite "A", Murrieta, Ca 92562 (we do not keep or process dogs at this location, but we do accept "in-kind" donations at this address). email: info@communityk9s.org If you can save this sweet girl, please do...”

We do a lot in the United States to help pets in peril. If you've welcome a rescue dog or cat into your life -- as millions of Americans have done in the past decade -- your own actions are a case in point. But do we somehow end up overlooking the challenges of less-fortunate pet owners themselves? One of America's largest animal-welfare philanthropies, Maddie's Fund, has been thinking a lot lately about the animal-companion bond. Editor-at-Large George Anders takes you inside a big strategic shift that Maddie's Fund has made in the past six years, addressing the high cost of pet care -- and the ways that unstable housing arrangements can put pet owners in jeopardy. https://bit.ly/4cToILU SPCA; The Humane Society of the United States

🌟 The holiday season is quickly approaching, and if you're in a position to share, it's the perfect time to remember our furry friends in need. 🐾 While we're taking advantage of Black Friday and Cyber Monday sales from businesses like Chewy and Amazon, let's not forget about the pets waiting for their forever homes in shelters and those whose families could use a little boost this year. 😺 Consider purchasing extra food and toys during the sales to donate to local pet food banks or animal shelters. Many shelters and rescues also have wish lists—check with local agencies to see what they need most! You can often find out where your local pet food bank is by contacting other food banks or your local shelter. 🛍️🐶🐱 🐶 You can also sponsor a shelter pet, volunteer your time, or set up collection bins at your workplace so colleagues can contribute. Together, we can make this season brighter for all pets, especially those still waiting for their forever families. 💛 ❤️ And if you need pet food assistance this year, don't hesitate to reach out to your local pet food bank. Food should be a basic right, and everyone deserves to eat, our furry companions included. #HolidayGiving #SupportShelters #PetsInNeed #BlackFriday #CyberMonday #PetDonation #VolunteerForAnimals #ShelterPets #AdoptDontShop #CommunitySupport #PetCareEssentials

🎁 OUR CHRISTMAS WISH 🎁 The cost of pet products in Australia surged by almost 12% in the year ending June 2023, outpacing the inflation rate for human food. We hear from people every day who are reducing their own food intake, or not eating at all, to feed their pets. Over three million Australians have been forced to cut back on pet-related expenses, with approximately 200,000 households relinquishing their pets due to financial constraints. Animal shelters across the country are reporting unprecedented pressure, with many operating at or beyond capacity. Did you know we have a Pet Food Bank? Stocked by donations and distributed by our volunteers and community partners, it has four primary goals: to prevent pet surrenders due to financial constraint; to ensure pets in disadvantaged households receive proper nutrition; to alleviate financial stress for pet owners facing hardship; and to maintain the human animal bond and its many mutual benefits. As a result of achieving these targets, the greater sector is served through a reduction in surrenders at shelters and fewer preventable health conditions showing at vets. Safe Pets Safe Families need your help to continue to provide these valuable services. Help fulfill "Our Christmas Wish" by making a tax-deductible donation at: https://lnkd.in/gRGT7cNi

Why High-Quality Dog Leads and Traffic Control Harnesses Are Essential for Public Safety In today’s world, where the rise in dog attacks is a growing concern, using a durable dog lead or traffic control harness is more important than ever. Whether strolling through the city or hiking in the countryside, responsible dog ownership starts with safety and control. The Importance of a Quality Dog Lead A premium dog lead and collar provide not just control but peace of mind for dog owners. From busy urban streets to shared parks, keeping your dog on a secure lead ensures safety for your pet and others, including children and fellow dogs. Debates surrounding dogs in public spaces emphasize the need for responsible dog handling. Loose dogs can cause fear, especially in individuals with cynophobia (a fear of dogs). Prioritising dog safety with tools like a waterproof dog lead or a dog traffic handle creates safer, more inclusive environments. Legislation and Dog Control Did you know that over 20 pieces of legislation govern dog ownership in the UK? From Dangerous Dogs Act 1991 to Public Spaces Protection Orders (PSPOs), laws are in place to protect both people and animals. Failing to keep your dog under control in public spaces can lead to fines, legal action, or worse. Benefits of Traffic Control Dog Handles For larger or energetic dogs, a traffic control dog harness or handle ensures close supervision in busy settings like city centres, markets, and parks. Our biothane waterproof dog handles are perfect for maintaining a strong grip, even in wet or muddy conditions. Why Choose Maisey Daisey for Dog Accessories? At Maisey Daisey, we offer: Harris Tweed Dog Leads and Collars for style and durability. Waterproof Biothane Dog Leads and Collars made in Yorkshire, ideal for all weather conditions. Free personalized engraving on collars to help quickly reunite lost dogs with their owners. Pet welfare depends much on the well-being of pet owners! What a concept! Thinking more broadly of the Cause supported by your foundation, business, general giving... or even if you are the nonprofit working to serve the Cause, may contribute to more comprehensive and lasting solutions to hunger, homelessness, poverty, crime, pollution--- and yes, even the care and welfare of pets! 'Throwing good money after bad' is no way to operate a charitable foundation or nonprofit! Hats off to Maddie's Fund for reaching this conclusion and shifting its focus to supporting more comprehensive, innovative and permanent solutions to end the abuse and neglect of our furry friends! What is your foundation or nonprofit doing to put an end to the root causes at fault for fueling the ongoing need and problems that you battle? #nonprofits #foundations #purpose #mission #vision #cause
