Currently sat on the stationary trainer 🚴 watching the Armagh International 5K. Apart from it’s not, is it? The men’s race is 5K, whilst the women’s is a 3K (a quick look at previous results suggests it’s always been this way). Yesterday was International Women in Sport day & I can’t help but think it leaves a bitter taste for the women’s international race to be almost half the distance of the men’s international race. For context, Armagh5k is one of the world’s most revered running road races, with some of Europe’s best runners descending on this small Northern Irish town every February. Credit where credit is due to the organisers for keeping this event running during trying times & also running a livestream. I appreciate that the reality of running events is far more difficult than it appears on paper. 👏 Perhaps there is good reason for the women’s event being 3K (selection criteria for a championship event, perhaps?), in which case I apologise for calling this out; but I can’t see one personally. It’d be great to see the women’s race be run over the billed 5K in 2025. Why not make it the main event on alternate years by running the men’s race first next year, too? 👀 Be interesting to hear my network’s thoughts on this!👇 #equality #womeninsport #armagh5k #athletics

🎂This year we are celebrating 10 years of ITRA 🎂 We asked some members of the trail community to share their testimony with us. Fred Bousseau, a journalist specialising in Trail Running, shares his own insight: "ITRA, a neutral association recognised by World Athletics, plays a major role in the trail running world. ITRA has taken on several missions, including the organisation of the discipline and major championships. The existence of ITRA is important precisely because it is not part of any sport business movement. ITRA's attachment to the international federation alone should now provide it with more resources and greater legitimacy to influence the organisation of the sport and the planning of major events, whether they are linked to major sponsors or just major national and international championships. If I had to describe ITRA in three words, they would be impartiality, federating and developing. Impartiality to be in contact with all the races, all the major circuits, the organisers and the international federation, federate for the cohesion aspect of the sport and the ability to be the reference authority. And finally, to develop the sport so that it has a higher profile in each country and internationally, both in terms of the organisations and the athletes. Thanks to the performance index, this tool should now be used to perhaps also classify teams and in time, why not, also rank races according to a certain number of criteria, as can be done in the world of cycling." 📷 Fred Bousseau 👉 Find out more info about ITRA: https://itra.run

Which current, major sporting event tells us the most about managing high-performance teams - La Vuelta a Espana cycle race or the Rugby World Cup? #lavuelta #teamleadership #performancemanagement #lovecycling I expect more books to be written and lecture hours earned by the winners of the latter, but feel that what is happening in La Vuelta is more interesting/illuminating. All three cycling grand tours have been brilliant entertainment this year with Jumbo-Visma the dominant team and providing “amazing” team dynamics/challenges. My fingers are crossed for Sepp Kuss - the ultimate team player, who has done such an amazing job at leading both Roglic and Vingegaard to victory in both the Giro and the Tour de France. But yesterday complicated matters a great deal (especially Roglic’s comments). Will there be a documentary with insights into how Jumbo-Visma is managing this high-performance and high-performing team and what is going through the minds of the individual superstars within in?? I hope so… Go Sepp, you deserve a grand tour victory… https://lnkd.in/et3RHhav

The participating sports of the multi-sport European Championships came together in Geneva on Wednesday 22 November to confirm their long-term commitment to the new generation event and discuss how to build on the success of European Championships Munich 2022 over the next three editions (2026, 2030, 2034). Representatives from seven European and international sports federations (CEV - Confédération Européenne de Volleyball, European Canoe Association, Union Européenne de Cyclisme, European Rowing, International Federation of Sport Climbing, European Table Tennis Union, and Europe Triathlon) joined with ECM to review key topics related to hosting, sponsorship, and the sports programme. ECM presented its progress with the event host selection process for the 2026 and 2030 editions, confirming advanced discussions are currently being carried out with a select number of candidates. It is envisaged that the 2026 and 2030 hosts will be selected in quick succession to give stability to long-term project planning and allow further development of the European Championships concept. Each of the federations presented to the group their individual commitments to the long-term future of the European Championships. Union Européenne de Cyclisme (UEC) were the first to publicly announce recently their long-term participation agreement for the 2026, 2030 and 2034 European Championships that includes the European cycling championships in all five Olympic disciplines. Participants discussed the sports programme and the addition of new sports or re-integrating sports for 2026 and 2030. ECM also presented progress on commercial partnership opportunities related to sponsorship and media rights across the 2026 and 2030 editions. The participating Federations made the following statement on conclusion of the meeting: ‘’We are pleased with the progress ECM is making in its discussions with the candidate cities for 2026 and 2030 and encouraged by its exploration of commercial opportunities for future editions. We remain strongly committed to the long-term vision of creating must-watch, must-attend multi-sport events with Europe’s leading cities that elevate the Champions of Europe, and see a very bright future together.’’ In the photo are (left to right): ETTU Acting President Pedro Moura, ECA President Jean Zoungrana, CEV Managing Director Thorsten Endres, European Rowing Chair Annamarie Phelps, Europe Triathlon President Renato Bertrandi, UEC President Enrico Della Casa, and IFSC General Director Piero Rebaudengo. https://lnkd.in/eP8wCmSK

Call out to all Cycling Club members! As we see clubs disappear and less people riding we need to ask ourselves what is going on with our sport. Cycling Clubs need to address the demographic they are appealing to and who they are attracting into the sport. Without a doubt we need to encourage the youth element into the sport. No it’s not easy and it takes dedicated members of the Club to take a lead on this and give up something that is precious to us all - time! All clubs and namely members need to start stepping up and volunteering to take a lead in bringing on a youth section in all clubs or else we will see continued decline in our sport. No it’s not an easy task following the guidelines set down by British Cycling but those guidelines are there for good reason. So you can’t let the committee in your club, who are probably already overstretched in keeping the club going take on yet another task, it has to be you or others in the club giving up time to help achieve this aim. We need more young people taking up the sport to keep it alive. #britishcycling #cycling #volunteer #youthdevelopment #engagement #inclusivity #leadership

Dear Chris Noel OAM Rowing Australia Life Member Sydney University Boat Club, Why wasn't the 2022 NSW AAGPS 1st VIII race stopped when Sydney Boys High School were forced off the regatta course and into the Rowing NSW Umpires speed boat wash? Didn't Sydney Boys High School deserve a safe and fair race under the Rowing NSW Laws of Racing? Didn't they matter as much as The King's School crew? Why wasn't the race re-rowed as per the Rowing NSW Laws of Racing? Why didn't Mr Michael Smith Sydney Grammar School AAGPS Rowing Convenor inform all the schools involved that a protest was been lodged, and re-row would be held? Why didn't the Rowing NSW Boat Race Officials uphold the Laws of Racing during and after the race? Was undue pressure placed upon the Umpire and Regatta Referee? How were the coaches awarded Rowing NSW Schoolboy coaches of the year? A position that you support? One of the coaches is now a Rowing Australia National Team Coach. Do you support that position too? As you support the outcome of the 2022 race? And why didn't the expert commentator, Mr Simon Pennington OAM St Joseph's College Hunters Hill, mention that six of the eight racing crews had failed to complete the race? However he did congratulate The King's School crew, and the AAGPS Convenor Mr Michael Smith Sydney Grammar School, and the Rowing NSW Umpires, for winning in what was a smoothly run regatta. That doesn't sound correct to me, does it make sense to you under the Laws of Racing? Was this incompetence, ignorance of Laws of Racing, or complicity in an event that had gone off script and outside the bounds of sportsmanship, the rules, and Code of Conduct? Helping Execs move from W2 -> creating Fractional/Consulting/Advisory opportunities. More $$$, Freedom + Security on Your Terms.
Consistency compounds. In 2003, the British Cycling Team hired Dave Brailsford as performance director. Before adopting the 1% better methodology, they had: • one Olympic gold medal in 100 years • zero Tour de France wins in 110 years. After implementing the methodology: • 2008 Olympics: 60% of gold medals • 2012: Bradley Wiggins wins Tour de France • 2012 Olympics: Nine Olympic and seven World Records • 2013, 2015, 2016, 2017: Chris Froome wins Tour de France From 2007 to 2017, British cyclists secured: • 178 world championships • 66 Olympic/Paralympic gold medals • five Tour de France victories. Tiny gains can yield exponential returns. What tiny gain are you going to achieve today? ____________________ You've worked too hard and too long not to... do the work you want the way you want with the people you want Let's create that, together.

Bavarian curling sport is a winter sport, somewhat similar to curling. The sport is called Eisstockschießen in German. While it is traditionally played on ice, there are also events held on tarmac during the summer. In fact, Bavarian Curling, also known as Eisstockschießen or Ice Stock Sport, has a rich and unique history that dates back centuries in the Bavarian region of Germany. #Bavariancurling #Icestock #Bavariancurlingsports https://lnkd.in/gp8yrtW7

The secret to getting the most out of life is finding challenges suitable to your time and place. So let's talk about a crazy event called steeplechase. For those of you unfamiliar with the #trackandfield event it is a 3000-meter race (about 200 yards short of two miles) over thirty-five 42"-high wooden 4" X 4" barriers that do not budge if you hit them. There are also seven water jumps with the same 42" barrier in front of an inclined zero-depth pool 13 feet in length. At its base just under the barrier, the water depth is 2.5 feet. An adept steeplechaser is able to navigate this water jump getting just one foot wet during the race. As a former high jumper (6'1.5") and triple jumper (40'4") I was often able to leap beyond the twelve feet of water, land on the one-foot zone where the incline ended and keep both feet dry for a major part of the race. That's an advantage as wet shoes are slightly heavier. In this photo I'm stepping on the barrier in front of the water jump to launch over the water. Thus the event requires agility as well as endurance. My life in #basketball and other sports helped make steeplechase a choice event for me. I was able to run just under 9:20 in this event, qualifying for D3 nationals and winning three conference championships, even with all that hair on my young head. I cannot imagine steeplechasing these days, but man was it fun in its day. Youth is not wasted on the young. We move on to other endeavors. #running #run #track #competition #olympics
