Climate change is a phenomenon that affects us globally, no country excluded. It poses a looming threat to life on earth, and to human health, security and prosperity. In particular, it affects marginalized urban areas in an even heavier and more evident way.  How can we improve the resilience of #vulnerablecommunities? The EYESYOUTHCLIMATE EU co-funded #ErasmusPlus project has the goal to focus on shaping a better future: how? Targeting youth on climate change engagement for European cities marginalized and suburban areas. And we want to do it in a tangible way. Cities are leading the charge against climate change. At the same time, the world's young people are increasingly at the forefront of climate action. Understandably, many mayors are eager to combine these forces—local and youth action—to drive their climate efforts to new heights. That's why more than 150 mayors came together last month at #COP28 in Dubai for Bloomberg Philanthropies’ Mayors Innovation Studio that zeroed in on strategies to help cities better engage youth in local climate efforts—not just as beneficiaries or champions, but as co-creators and implementers of new, more ambitious solutions. 🌡️ 𝗖𝗟𝗜𝗠𝗔𝗧𝗘 𝗖𝗛𝗔𝗡𝗚𝗘 #ClimateChange is a global phenomenon that is affecting 𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗰𝗼𝗿𝗻𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘄𝗼𝗿𝗹𝗱. It is a serious threat to human health, security, and prosperity. But it is also a threat to 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘇𝗲𝗱 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀, which are disproportionately affected by climate change. These communities are hit the hardest by extreme weather events like #floods that have led to higher urban issues and in some cases to more illnesses. These #VulnerableCommunities are also experiencing more severe #droughts and #HeatWaves and are having to adapt to the climate change in urban context. In this context, better knowledge as well as better policies can reduce energy use and greenhouse gas emissions and improve the 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗶𝗹𝗶𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗿𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗿𝘂𝗰𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗼 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲, thus shaping future trends as well as youth knowledge and actions. 🌍 "We didn’t inherit the Earth from our ancestors; we’ve borrowed it from our children." This saying echoes in my mind every time I see a child running through a park or gazing up at a tree, unaware of the crises looming over their future. As I strolled through the city today, surrounded by concrete, I realized something profound: we’ve become so focused on building upwards, we’ve forgotten to look at what we’re losing beneath our feet. Archbishop Desmond Tutu said, "The world’s forests are a shared stolen treasure that we must put back for our children’s future." I couldn’t agree more. Every tree, every green space is part of a legacy we owe to the next generation. But what will they inherit from us? 🌱 What if the cities we design today could be part of the solution? What if every urban area embraced sustainable planning? It’s not too late. Urban greening, reforestation, and resilient city designs are critical paths forward. The main objective of EYES is to encourage young people to participate as 𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗴𝗲 𝗺𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗴𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻 𝗮𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗺𝗮𝗿𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀𝗲𝗱 𝗼𝗿 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝘂𝗿𝗯𝗮𝗻.
