So last week we visited the CIPD Festival of Work in London. We spoke to hundreds of amazing people professionals about reward and recognition, cost of living support and a whole bunch of other amazing things. We also let every visitor to our stand spin the wheel. Whether it was £5 or £50, we sent the prizes out as Prezzee smart cards, giving the lucky winners the choice of redemption at hundreds of retailers. So this brings us to a really interesting question, just what do HR professionals like when it comes to a little treat? Well it turns out the list is varied, 37 different retailers have been chosen so far… Coming in at number 4 with 2% of redemptions we have John Lewis & Partners, because who doesn’t like John Lewis? At number 3, it’s Just Eat Takeaway.com at 3%, no one wants to cook after 20k steps around ExCel for the day. Number 2 is Tesco with 7%, it’s just convenient, isn’t it? And the absolute winner? (and in one of the most exhausting professions out there this shouldn’t be a surprise) Costa Coffee coming in with 9% Special shoutout to the £50 winner choosing Miller & Carter-we like your style.

HR Leader I HR Head | Consulting, Retail & Manufacturing HR I Young HR Icon award by NHRDN I HR 100under40
𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 & 𝐂𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐁𝐲𝐭𝐞𝐬 01: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫 𝐨𝐟 𝐓𝐚𝐥𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐒𝐡𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐏𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐬 In today’s era, innovative solutions often emerge when organizations break down the traditional boundaries and explore talent intervention and collaboration beyond their own industry. One remarkable illustration of such adaptability emerged when McDonald's and Aldi Germany joined forces in March 2020. Due to the COVID-19, McDonald's faced the daunting prospect of job cuts due to restaurant closures and restricted working hours. Concurrently, Aldi Germany, a leading grocery chain, grappled with a talent shortage, driven by surging demand for its products. These two industry giants, operating in entirely different sectors, forged an innovative cross-industry partnership to address their respective challenges. McDonald's workers had the opportunity to voluntarily transition from the fast-food giant to Aldi's stores, operating under Aldi's employment conditions. Once restrictions are lifted, employees ‘quickly and unbureaucratically’ returned to their former employer The outcome was a resounding win-win situation, with McDonald's preserving its human capital and Aldi effectively meeting customer demand. The McDonald's-Aldi partnership shines a spotlight on the immense potential of talent sharing programs between organizations, showcasing how they can reshape the employment landscape and drive mutually beneficial outcomes. As we appreciate this remarkable collaboration, it is important to reflect on the broader implications and the questions it raises: · Are Cross-Industry Collaborations the Future of Talent Management? · What Role Does Employee Choice Play in Talent Exchange Programs? · What Are the Limitations of Such Partnerships? Any thoughts? #talent #culture #hr #talentmanagement #talentandculturebytes #rkbytes

Recently, we completed beta testing for our e-learning program with a group of executives, HR specialists, and middle managers in corporate foodservice. Developed specifically for our industry, our digital program will give companies a deeper understanding of diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism to attract racialized talent, increase employee retention, and create more resilient businesses via self-directed modules and small group sessions. Here’s some of the feedback we received: ▶ “It was helpful to understand the structure of DEI by showing what steps can be taken and how they need to evolve over time.” ▶ “I was pleasantly surprised by the expansiveness of the program because it starts with your own feelings and that’s what it consumes most of the work. I liked that the program acknowledged the difference between feeling uncomfortable and being offended, because once you address that you can get people to start thinking about how they can do the work.” ▶ “ I really appreciated the data aspect because everyone is so focused on being driven by insights and data, but nobody talks about how the data can be flipped, which is often a missed opportunity for other DEI training that I’ve been involved in.” Our next step is to run beta testing with a small group of restaurant owners, management, and BOH/FOH leaders. If you're interested in joining this beta group, come find us at the #RCShow to add your business to the list. Stay up to date on free opportunities to get involved by subscribing to our newsletter on https://lnkd.in/g8y8kSwn #businessgrowth #restaurantindustry #industrychange

Fantastic news! Lidl has taken a strategic leap by increasing its basic wages to match those of its major competitor, Aldi. This move not only indicates that Lidl values its workforce, but also evidences the growing competition for investments in people in an ever more transparent and competitive business landscape. 💼 ◾Business Implications◾ -Knowingly or unknowingly, Lidl strengthens its brand image. This move could make them an employer of choice in the sector, thereby attracting talent who may be the game-changers for the company. -The ongoing commitment to its employees could lead to an enhanced employee engagement and loyalty, thereby potentially decreasing staff turnover rate. ◾The Future◾ The question forward is not Why invest in people? but How much more to invest in people? . This employee-oriented manoeuvre might spark a trend into a new era of even higher wages within the sector, pushing other firms to follow suit to stay competitive. Major players can use economic scale advantages, but this could mean trouble for the smaller firms, potentially driving increased consolidation. 🎓Key Takeaways🎓 1. Staff attraction and retention are invaluable in an intensely competitive business environment. 2. Investments in staff aren't mere costs, they're strategic tools to boost a company's competitive strength. 3. Firms should watch their competition closely because the 'best practices' that lead industry are constantly transforming. This is indeed a bold move that is sure to stimulate thought-provoking dialogues in marketplaces around staff investment strategy!📊 Read on: [Lidl increases pay to match Aldi in battle for staff](https://lnkd.in/es86EA57) #BusinessStrategy #InvestInPeople #StaffRetention #MarketCompetition #Lidl #Aldi

💡 How to keep your staff happy 💡 Simple... you reward them for their dedication and commitment to your organisation and let them know that they are valued... 🚀 It isn't Rocket Science 🚀 Hats off to CEO Roisin Currie at Greggs who has decided to pay all staff members that have been working for them 6+yrs a £700 bonus each after the bakery beat McDonald's to become the UK's favourite breakfast spot. I know not every organisation can afford to do things like this, but recognising the hard work and dedication from your employees will help you to retain them and have a happy workforce. Win:Win 🙂
