💦🚰 Ensuring Future Supply: Major Reservoir Project Set to Serve 15 Million People 💦🚰 Thames Water has taken a significant step forward in securing the future water supply for millions with the appointment of a new technical partner for the South East Strategic Reservoir Option (SESRO) near Abingdon. 👇 Key Highlights 👇 𝗧𝗲𝗰𝗵𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝗹 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝘁𝗻𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽: Arup and Binnies (Arup Binnies joint venture) have been appointed to lead development proposals for the new reservoir. 🤝 𝗦𝘁𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗴𝗶𝗰 𝗥𝗲𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗰𝗲: SESRO is expected to provide a secure water supply to 15 million customers across Thames Water, Southern Water, and Affinity Water catchments starting in 2040. 🚰 𝗙𝘂𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗲 𝗗𝗲𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗱: By 2050, Thames Water anticipates the need for an additional 1 billion litres of water per day due to population growth and climate challenges. 💧 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀: Arup and Binnies were selected after a thorough procurement exercise demonstrating their expertise in large-scale infrastructure projects. 🏗 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗵𝗲𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗦𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗶𝗰𝗲𝘀: The joint venture will assist with engineering design, environmental assessment, planning, and land access and acquisition. 🛠️ 𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗔𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘃𝗮𝗹: If approved, the Development Consent Order (DCO) for SESRO will be submitted in 2026, with construction starting in 2029 and operations beginning by 2040. 📅 ----------------------------------------------------- The appointment of Arup and Binnies as the technical partner for SESRO marks another advancement in Thames Water's efforts to ensure long-term water security in the South East. 💦 #waterindustry #watersupply #engineering #reservoir #meicahub #grs
