Candidates! The end of year is not the easiest to identify that awesome job but, those who are hiring are very serious. You’ll see a ton of advice about navigating the market. A ton of it is bs from those who think they control the situation so two things I think you can do to take control: 1. Always - ALWAYS - ask if there is an internal candidate and if so, what would an external candidate bring that the internal candidate won’t based on the needs of the position. If you get a bs answer, withdraw. 2. Contact someone who recently left the organization and department and ask why they left. They’ll likely be very honest. Don’t be made to feel like it’s some privilege to talk to a company. You’re the rockstar - rock. #opentowork #takecontrol #cutthroughthebs

Always darkly amusing when a publicly-traded tech company’s mass layoffs are rewarded with an upswing in its stock price. What massive layoffs at a very large tech company tell me as an investor is, “Be skeptical when we tell you we’re growing, because we are probably overestimating that projection the same way we overestimated our workforce needs.” As for smaller tech companies, it’s more a sign that they’ve decided to clean the floor after seeing what *didn’t* stick to the wall after some desperate managerial flinging— i.e., it was harder to expand our midmarket/MSP footprint than senior management said it would be, or that “strategic alliance with <insert big tech OEM>” was way more interesting to us than to them.

Friendly reminder that the #opentowork badge means exactly that. Nothing more. Nothing less. In 2024, let's make it a goal to have more compassion for the human experience, and judge less the conditions of why a candidate is communicating their search for employment publicly on the internet. At the end of the day, 250,000 people have been out of work this year alone through layoffs. Candidate enablement is the future of hiring. "The best candidates don't take 3+ months to land a new role" - this was a post I read on here over the weekend. Here's a reminder of how crazy the last 4 years have been: ✅ We had the Covid-19 pandemic. ✅ There were near-WW III events. ✅ Over 500,000 people have been laid off in the tech space since 2022. On the other side of things, maybe you: 1️⃣ Are a new/single parent, and needed some time with your kid(s). 2️⃣ Got sick/needed to care for someone who is/was sick. 3️⃣ Wanted to travel. 4️⃣ Wanted a break after what has been a hectic 4-5 year period.
