The third round of the season of the FIM Superbike World Championship will start this weekend at the TT Circuit in Assen, in The Netherlands. Pirelli confirms the options already deployed in 2023 for both the WorldSSP and WorldSBK classes, with the addition for the latter of the development rear SCX with C0900 specification, already seen in action in Barcelona both in testing and in the race. At the "Cathedral of Speed", as the Assen circuit is informally called, the young riders of the Northern Talent Cup will also take to the track, for which Pirelli is the sole supplier from this year as for all the other championships of the Road to MotoGP™ project. Tyre allocation: in addition to the aforementioned SCX in C0900 specification, WorldSBK riders will have access to the SC1 and SC2 standard solutions at the front and SCX and SC0 at the rear, in addition to the SCQ exclusively intended for use in Superpole and Superpole Race. In case of rain, which is often a real possibility at Assen at this time of year, there will be intermediate and SCR1 wet tyres on both the front and rear. In WorldSSP riders will be able to choose between SC1 and SC2 for the front and SCX and SC0 for the rear, with the SCR1 as the wet option.   Asphalt and temperatures: at this time of year, the area where the historic Assen circuit is located is often affected by rain and it can still be quite cold, with asphalt temperatures that can be as low as 4°C, as happened in 2022. Despite these temperatures, usually the not particularly abrasive asphalt can allow teams and riders to find set ups suitable for softer solutions.   · Turn 5: the Assen track is feared by the riders due to the first left corner, which comes after four consecutive right corners and is located in a part of the circuit often subject to cold winds, which makes the management of the front tyre temperature and caution when entering of vital importance.   Pirelli for the Northern Talent Cup: the bikes of the young riders - aged between 14 and 17 - competing in the Northern Talent Cup will be equipped with Pirelli DIABLO Superbike slick tyres in SC2 compound, 100/70 R17 at the front and 120/70 R17 at the rear. In case of rain, SCR1 compound is available in same sizes for the front and 125/70 R17 at the rear.

How I Got Into Racing? 🌎🏎️ Growing up, I never thought I would race cars across the world, driving at 240 km/h at world-famous circuits. 🏌🏻♂️From a young age, I was raised to be a golfer. Starting at 2 years old, I played with my parents, frequently visiting the driving range, and playing more as I got older. While I played other sports on the side, golf was always the primary focus. However, everything changed when I turned 13. 🏎️ I always had an interest in cars and racing growing up, but it wasn’t a passion until I came across an article about professional karting. 🏁After some in-depth research, I discovered a karting track in Innisfil that hosted competitive races. On my 13th birthday, I visited the track and tried out a 4-stroke Briggs kart. The feeling of driving was unlike anything I had experienced before; the adrenaline rush I got from driving was something I never experienced playing golf. From that moment, I knew racing was what I wanted. 🔍Fast forward a few years later to the last race of the Zinox F2000 Trophy series at Misano World Circuit. 🏆I found myself on the top step of the podium twice after winning both races in the Gold class, something I never thought would happen when I was 13. Where are you from? "I live in a suburban town of Moscow, called Balashikha, located east to the city. But I was born, raised and spent most of my life in my home town of Mirniy in Arkhangelsk Region, located near the Plesetsk spaceport." What is your favorite car to race in? "High downforce cars in general. I like sharp turning cars that are sensitive to my steering input." What is your favorite number? "27. It has a nice shape to it. I also drive 72, that's the favorite number of my oldest friend, who I honor having in my life." What is your favorite race track? "It's a tough one. I generally like fast flowing circuits so probably Spa. But I also like Silverstone and Imola." What is your favorite real-life team? "Ferrari." What is your favorite moment with the PromixFlame Team? "Probably making 1-2 at HME Le Mans 2022 with two different cars. But every winning moment is special to me because it's my team and if it goes well, I am proud." What makes the PromixFlame Team special compared to other teams? "We have a well-recognizable team spirit and well-developed teamwork. And I've been repeatedly told that we do have a style." What made you fall in love with racing and autosports? "I got into Formula 1 when I was only 3 years old. One of my first races was Brazilian GP 2001. I guess a small kid just can't not get into something that has fast loud cars, Michael Schumacher and Juan Pablo Montoya. Also, Jos Verstappen was stuck in my head because of his incident in that race with Montoya but also his beautiful orange Arrows car." What was the reason that you started racing? "I like competing, just for the pureness of it. I like to best myself and know that I did my best and it feels good to win after all that. I started racing when I got back in F1 in 2013 with Codemasters game. I held my own league and it was a very pleasant experience." Why should people start simracing? "If you like competing with time - why not. Former MotoGP™ and WorldSBK star Ben Spies recently shared his insights on the distinct differences between riding in MotoGP and Superbikes, and how rider styles play a crucial role in each. ❝It's just that you don't feel it. Everything is stiffer, the bike and the tyres,❞ Spies stated, highlighting the tactile contrast between the two. The 2024 Formula 1 Chinese Grand Prix Sprint Race After four years, Formula 1 returned to China for the Formula 1 Lenovo Chinese Grand Prix 2024. Every year, from 2004 up to 2019, there has been a Chinese Grand Prix. Unfortunately, from 2020 to 2023, the event was canceled as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic. The good news is that the Chinese Grand Prix is back! The event hosted the first sprint race of the year. The other Grands Prix that will host sprint races are Miami, Austria, Austin, Brazil, and Qatar. The format for this year’s sprint activities is different from last year’s. This year, on Friday, April 19, the only practice session of the weekend and the Sprint Qualifying were held. On Saturday, April 20, the sprint and the traditional qualifying were held, while the race will be held on Sunday, April 21. Unlike other Grands Prix weekends, at a Sprint weekend, teams are allocated 12 sets of tyres instead of the usual 13. The Sprint is a short race that lasts 30 minutes and covers 100 km, which is usually a third of the usual race distance. The driver who sets the fastest lap isn’t awarded any points; however, the top eight finishers are awarded points. The winner of the sprint receives 8 points, the second driver receives 7 points, and so on until the eighth driver who receives 1 point. At the start of the race, Norris defended himself against Hamilton until they both approached Turn 2, where he ran wide and lost the lead. Hamilton took the lead of the race, while Norris dropped to seventh place on the grid. By lap 4, the other Mercedes driver, Russell, was up to ninth place after passing Bottas and Magnussen. By the fifth lap, both Red Bull cars had issues of their own. Verstappen had earlier in the race asked about his battery on the radio, while Perez was given instructions related to engine mapping. Luckily for them, two laps later, those issues were sorted out, and on lap 8, Verstappen moved into second place after passing Alonso. At this point in time, the race leader, Hamilton, was complaining about his car’s performance through the low-speed corners. On lap 9, Hamilton ran wide through the hairpin, which gave Verstappen the DRS advantage over him. On the following lap, on the inside into Turn 9, Verstappen overtook Hamilton, and by lap 11, he was over 2 seconds ahead. By lap 13, Verstappen was ahead of Hamilton by 4 seconds. By lap 16, Verstappen was eight seconds ahead of Hamilton. On the following lap, Alonso and Sainz made contact with each other, which left Alonso with a front tyre puncture. Alonso pitted and retired on lap 18. By the final lap, Verstappen was leading by 11.5 seconds! He went on to win the sprint race ahead of Hamilton and Perez who finished in third place!
