For nearly 150 years, The Bowery Mission has been a beacon of hope for New York's homeless and hungry. Senior leaders from our NY office recently joined this mission, serving dinner to over 130 people at their Lafayette shelter. We are proud to be able to support a range of their initiatives through #ICAPCharityDay. A small act can change a life – it could mean a night of shelter, meals, and guidance on the path to self-reliance. Find out more: www.bowery.org

Lead Ambassador PR and Marketing focused Communication Major with a Minor in Entrepreneurial Leadership and Innovation
Definitely take a look at this article to learn more about what we need to get a low-barrier homeless shelter in Pensacola!
Mayor Reeves shared that Pensacola cannot open a low-barrier homeless shelter without support from our local business community. Reeves hired Jon DeCarmine to write a report to figure out what it would cost to create a homeless shelter in our community. His report showed that a shelter in Pensacola could cost anywhere between $2.19 million and $3.47 million. DeCarmine, Executive Director of GRACE Marketplace, shared that 80% of the cost for a low-barrier shelter would need to be funded by local government and community partners. On this Homeless Person's Memorial Day, let's take a moment to reflect on some eye-opening facts about homelessness both locally and nationally. Did you know? 1. As many as 1 out of every 30 children in the US experiences homelessness. 2. The fastest-growing population of homeless individuals is older adults. Our elders, who have given so much to society, often find themselves without shelter or support. 3. In 2023 to-date, our local 211 has handled a staggering 9,675 calls related to housing and employment assistance. This is a clear indication of the pressing need for affordable housing and living wage employment in our community. At United Way, we believe everyone deserves a safe place to call their own and should be treated with dignity and respect. Let's remember that we can all make a difference by looking out for each other, volunteering, and advocating for policies that address homelessness.

Nationwide, more children live in the state of homelessness than in most American states. This is why our work here at Safe Haven is more important than ever before. Last year we served 332 families, which included 758 children. Per data from the National Center for Homeless Education, the number of children experiencing homelessness during the 2021-2022 school year nationwide was greater than the total number of children in 28 states. Nearly 1.2 million children were either literally homeless (living in a shelter, or in unsheltered locations such as a car or tent) or doubled-up (sharing housing with friends or family beyond a unit’s designated capacity). Just walked past a community shelter and it struck me—how do we truly open our hearts and spaces to those without a home? 🏠💡 In the UK, homelessness isn't just a statistic; it's a reality for thousands, and the need for inclusive communities is more pressing than ever. Here are some thoughts on creating spaces that welcome everyone: 👉 Start with empathy: Understanding the challenges faced by the homeless is the first step. Let's engage in conversations, listen to their stories, and build from a place of compassion. 👉 Collaboration is key: Partnering with local businesses, charities, and government bodies can lead to innovative solutions. Whether it's converting unused buildings into shelters or providing job training, it's about pooling resources for the greater good. 👉 Sustainability matters: Temporary fixes aren't enough. We need to think long-term—affordable housing, mental health support, and pathways to employment are crucial in helping individuals regain their independence. 👉 It's about community: Inclusive communities mean everyone has a role to play. From volunteering at soup kitchens to mentorship programs, every action counts. 👉 Don't forget the youth: Homeless young people need education and support to break the cycle. Let's invest in their futures. We can all contribute to a society where no one has to call the streets their home. Share your ideas, get involved, and let's make a difference together. 🤝 #Homelessness #CommunitySupport #InclusiveSociety #vetrorecruitment #vetro

This November we are recognizing #HomelessnessAwarenessMonth, by sharing important statistics that reflect the local homelessness crisis here in our own community. In Dutchess County, 1,276 households and 1,622 individuals sought support, facing an average of 240 days of homelessness. This means that for more than half of the a year, individuals and families will grapple with the harsh realities of life without a stable home. These statistics remind us of the urgent need for action. It's not just about raising awareness; it's about working to create real, lasting change. Hudson River Housing works everyday providing shelter, housing services, and affordable housing solutions for housing insecure members of our community. Together, we can help shorten the duration of homelessness and make a lasting impact in the lives of those in need. Join us this Homeless Awareness Month in advocating for change. Let's ensure that everyone has a safe and secure place to call home, not just for a few months, but for a lifetime.

💥 Our next Grapevine Speaker's Series is happening on April 4! 💥 It’s estimated that 6 million people experience homelessness in the U.S. each year and one out of every two Americans is one paycheck away from not being able to afford rent. We also know that 82% of Americans believe the U.S. should be doing more to prevent homelessness. So what’s preventing us from addressing this issue in a real and effective way? 💬 This conversation will outline how and why community-based work and advocacy is at the heart of addressing the homelessness crisis. The scope of the problem can feel daunting, but community-centric models like Giving Circles bring reason for hope by prioritizing our shared humanity and desire for collective change. 🎟 Grab your spot to the conversation on April 4 here: https://lnkd.in/eibBwA5u 🎤 Meet the Panelists: 🌟 Kevin F. Adler Award-winning author of When We Walk By: Forgotten Humanity, Broken Systems, and the Role We Can Each Play in Ending Homelessness in America, and founder of Miracle Messages, a nonprofit addressing relational homelessness. 🌟 Kelly Cobb Vice President of Giving at Bombas, an apparel brand that donates a clothing item to those experiencing homelessness for every purchase made.
Welcome! You are invited to join a meeting: PANEL EVENT: Addressing Homelessness through Community-Driven Solutions. After registering, you will receive a confirmation email about joining the meeting.

Umbrella of Compassion ☔️🌼😊 It's 5.30 am and I got up due to heavy rainy sound and I wonder, the people who sit comfortably in warm, dry home, but think about those who aren't as fortunate. For the homeless, rainy days bring a harsh reminder of their vulnerability and the urgent need for compassionate action. CTA <Call to Action> : -Clothing drives -Food service -Fiest aid kit -Offer a hand (local place where altogether can stay) -Raise awareness on this serious issue For most of us, rain means cozying up indoors. For those without a home, it means braving the elements with little protection. Let’s shine a light on how we can help.👥️😇🙏 #HomelessSupport #CommunityAction #RainyDays #Volunteerism #SocialGood
