This phase often includes: **Site Preparation** **Building Framework** **Mechanical & Electrical (M&E) Works** **Compliance with Regulations** **Quality Control** 3. Materials and Sustainability: In modern shopfitting and construction, there is a growing emphasis on sustainability. This includes the use of: **Eco-Friendly Materials** **Energy-Efficient Design** **Waste Management** 4. Project Management: Effective project management is essential for the timely delivery of shopfitting and construction projects. This includes: **Time Management** **Cost Control** **Coordination of Trades** 5. We always help our clients allocate their budget effectively by breaking it into categories. This method allows clients to see where their money is going and prioritise spending. We ensure that no important aspect is overlooked, leading to more informed decisions and a smoother project execution. We allocate a portion of the budget to the construction team for labour and building work. Another significant category is fixed materials, such as tiles, joinery, kitchens, and bathrooms. Investing in high-quality materials here ensures the durability and aesthetic appeal of the home. Professional fees are also a crucial part of the budget. This includes costs for hiring experts like structural engineers and interior designers. Allocating funds for these professionals ensures that the project is structurally sound and meets all regulations, preventing costly mistakes. Lastly, we set aside a budget for loose items like furniture and decor, which bring personality and comfort to the space. We also recommend keeping a contingency fund for unexpected expenses, as unforeseen issues often arise during construction. This approach ensures that the project can continue smoothly without financial strain. Please get in touch if you would like help with your renovation. 📹Laurens Jan Koster

What is a Turnkey Fitout Service? Imagine a process that handles every aspect of your interior design and execution – from the initial consultation and space planning to the final installation and sign off. A turnkey solution is designed to be ready for immediate use, hence the term “turnkey”, and it emphasises the provider’s capability to deliver a fully functional setup without the client’s need to be involved in every detail. In business and educational settings, this approach not only saves time but also ensures a ready-to-use environment right from the start. A Turnkey interior fit out service will include: ⏩ Design Consultancy - the first phase involves conceptualisation, budgeting, and finalising the design. ⏩ Project Management - to keep things moving seamlessly, managing budgets, resources, and timelines. ⏩ Space Planning - the allocation and division of interior spaces to make the environment both appealing and functional. ⏩ Execution - a turnkey provider’s installation team delivers on every aspect of the interior fit out, handling all works and contractors on site. ⏩ Aftercare - a good fit-out provider doesn’t stop at project completion. They offer support and maintenance, to assist with snagging and any issues. #turnkey #interiordesign #installation #delivery

Renovation tips for a smooth, successful project! -Proper planning is key to keeping your renovation on budget. -Not all renovations require permits—only structural, electrical, or plumbing work typically does. -DIY can save money, but some tasks need professional expertise for safety. -Not all renovations add value—consider market conditions and quality before starting. -Projects often take longer than expected, so build in extra time. -Renovations can get messy, especially if you're living in the space. -Trends change quickly; timeless designs are often the best choice. -Higher prices don’t always guarantee better quality—find a balance between cost and durability. -Interior designers can save you time and money by preventing costly mistakes. -Renovated areas need ongoing care, like resealing and maintenance. Balancing Rising Construction Costs Without Compromising Quality in Design and Construction In Australian political circles, there’s growing conversation around the impact of rising construction costs on the design and construction industry. With inflationary pressures and supply chain disruptions driving prices up, concerns are mounting that some may seek to lower standards in an effort to mitigate these costs. This presents a significant risk not only to the quality of work but to the safety and long-term sustainability of projects. The challenge for designers and builders is clear—how do we maintain the quality and compliance required by industry standards while keeping projects financially viable? Balancing rising construction costs while maintaining quality in new build and renovation projects is one of the greatest challenges in today’s market. As interior designers, we’re often tasked with finding creative ways to meet budget constraints without compromising on design integrity, craftsmanship, or safety standards. While it’s tempting to cut corners in materials or finishes to offset higher costs, this approach can undermine the long-term value and functionality of the space. Importantly, any cost-saving measures must never come at the expense of meeting the National Construction Code (NCC) standards. Adhering to these regulations ensures not only the structural integrity of the project but also the safety and wellbeing of those who will use the space. It’s crucial to prioritise where to invest—opt for timeless, durable materials in key areas, and be strategic in using cost-effective alternatives for secondary features. Thoughtful spatial planning, attention to detail, and open communication with clients and trades are key to finding that balance. After all, interior design isn’t just about creating beautiful spaces—it’s about ensuring those spaces stand the test of time in style, quality, and compliance. #InteriorDesign #ConstructionCosts #QualityOverCompromise #NCCStandards #DesignIntegrity #Renovation #NewBuilds Housing Industry Association (HIA) Interior Design Association Australia

When beginning a new consulting project anywhere, particularly international work, before doing any test-fit plans or designs, I always look at the floor plate for safety and egress compliance first. It is amazing to me how many issues you find...sometimes even in new construction. The below image was a recent example. Fortunately, we are (now) getting this floor into compliance before continuing to discuss a lease agreement. #interiordesign #projectmanagement #commercialrealestate #corporateinteriors #Facilitiesmanagement #floorplan #officeinteriors #interiorarchitecture #workplacedesign #officedesign #spaceplanning #workplacesolutions #workspace #officespaces #furnitureplanning #officefurniture #testfitplans #occupancystrategy #occupancymetrics #consultantcoordination #AV #Security #IT #networks #constructionadministration #NYC #Connecticut #consultingservices

Did you know we have our own in-house Client-side Project Manager? What is a ‘client-side’ Project Manager you ask?? Well I’m glad you asked that 😂🤓 Our designers design, specify. Our select building partners build it. And most of them have their own in-house construction project managers. BUT there are SO many questions, scenarios, substitutions that need to be made during the build that the client is too busy to answer, or doesn’t know how to. Also how do you know that the painter really was on site this week? Well we (our AMAZING Client PM Rachel Hogan) will pop in and send the client an update, things we’ve noticed and RFIs for the designer to address if Rachel can’t solve it on the spot - with the client all able to carry on with their normal job. We’ve even organised movers to pack up offices plus intercept the new furniture deliveries. (Sorry the buck stops with us unpacking 😅) Sounds dreamy? We’ve got a few under our belt now and clients love it, designers get to keep designing, but our building partners RESPECT it because they get answers quick and variations explained and approved in a fair approach. And if you are a design practise-we can collaborate and be your client side PM for your design, because at Pocketspace Interiors we get it and love working with our industry.
