"The Bristol Bay salmon fishery is one of the most sustainable fisheries, in my opinion, on the planet." David Vardy, Captain F/V Holly V
As we look back on another salmon season in Bristol Bay, we’re reminded of how fortunate we are to get to fish these waters. The health of our oceans and all our natural resources is first and foremost for our fishermen. Scratch that—it’s important to EVERYONE here.
Buenos dias los felicito por la pesca de salmón se ve q están muy organizados
Señores soy pescador con 27 años de experiencia como puedo hacer para trabajar en Seafood
To safeguard our oceans, we must rethink sustainability standards for fishing. In a recent Ocean Sustainability paper, the authors chart a new course for fisheries, aiming to protect both marine ecosystems and the communities that depend on them.

Wild-caught pelagic fish boasts the lowest carbon footprint among animal proteins. These fish thrive naturally, requiring no artificial feeding or freshwater, making their production sustainable.
Additionally, our pelagic fishing operatons maximise efficiency by using larger vessels that make fewer, longer trips thereby reducing emissions.🌍🎣

🌍🐾 Celebrating World Otter Day! 🦦
Today, we shine a spotlight on the remarkable otters that inhabit our waterways. Otters play a critical role in maintaining healthy ecosystems, and their presence is a testament to the health of our environment. On this special day, let's commit to protecting these wonderful creatures and their habitats.
Here are 3 tips to safeguard otters:
1. Protect their habitats: Support conservation efforts to preserve wetlands, rivers, and coastal areas where otters live.
2. Reduce pollution: Minimise the use of plastics and chemicals that can harm otter habitats and food sources.
3. Support sustainable fisheries: Ensure that fishing practices do not deplete the otters' food supply or disrupt their ecosystems.
Join us in raising awareness and taking action to ensure a safe future for otters.🌿💙

Whither Fishing?
Fishing and fisheries are in the grip of strong forces beyond their control. Geopolitical events are impacting supply chains and causing volatility in the fossil fuel markets. This is undermining economic viability. Meanwhile, the EU’s Green Deal with its ambitious targets for off-shore energy generation is imposing restrictions on fishing by reserving space traditionally occupied by fishing for off-shore renewables.
European consumers’ demands for low cost, easy to prepare seafood on the one hand, and for luxury products on the other means that there is an ever-increasing dependence on imports to satisfy demands. The fish processing and import sector benefit from access to low cost, tariff free supplies that don’t need to meet the same environmental and social standards as EU produced seafood. How can EU products compete? How can fishing crews and fishing companies secure a fair return for their labour and investments? What could be a viable business model for fishing?
Global warming and climate change are making seas more dangerous, less predictable and less comfortable places to work. Fish are being driven from their usual habitats into distant waters, and exotic species are appearing in their place. What will fishing and our food from the sea look like in the future? What role can science play to help the transition?
It’s a privilege to be invited as panellist on behalf of Low Impact Fishers of Europe - LIFE to this clairvoyant event, and to be part of an eclectic group of experts looking into the future. What do the scientists, the policy makers and the decision takers see as they gaze into their crystal balls?
Please come and join us to listen and discuss what steps need to be taken to ensure a just transition for fishing from a 20th century extractive industry to a 21st century sustainable, economically resilient and dynamic and socially just food production sector.

🌊 On this International Day for the Fight Against Illegal, Unreported, and Unregulated (IUU) Fishing, we emphasize the critical need to protect our oceans and ensure sustainable fisheries. IUU fishing threatens marine biodiversity, food security, and the livelihoods of countless communities. By advocating for stronger policies, promoting transparency, and leveraging innovative technologies, we can combat these harmful practices. Together, we can make a difference and preserve our marine resources for future generations.
