1️⃣ Day 1 of the Urban Future. #Rotterdam conference: a great Placemaking Western Balkans Municipality of Celje / Mestna Občina Celje session, and wonderful speakers Monika Tominšek Małgorzata Ćwikła, PhD ICLEI Europe and Alexandru Stan @IN2 🔥 The discussion between the speakers and the audience was built around several “burning questions” bringing new insights to the surface: ❓ What does it mean to be urban planner working for municipality on the heritage renewal projects and is it attractive for young architecture and design professionals to work for the city rather than working in a private practice on heritage-inspired projects ? ❓ Why is it still difficult to motivate bottom up heritage projects and what makes those cities who got it right successful? ❓ Can citizens determine what is heritage from their point of view and make city officials listen to them, or is definition of heritage exclusive right of cultural institutions only? ❓ Are digital tools making heritage closer to everyone, what is their role in sustainable, regenerative tourism as opposite to “extractive” tourism? ➡ Full overview of the "Cool Answers to Burning Questions on Redoing Heritage" will be available at our Placemaking Western Balkans BLOG dedicated to the Redoing Heritage interactive session, starting from 10th of June. Stay tuned, mark the day for a good read! #placemaking #publicspace #built #nontangible #heritage #regeneration #digitaltools

Often we do discuss the high standards of fire safety that are set by German authorities, because of the massive costs that come along with them and yet, the importance of fire safety can not be overstated can it?
🔥 #Denmark is having its “Notre Dame moment” The historical Børsen Stock Exchange building in Copenhagen is on fire. ☝️ It was built in 1625 and is one of the city’s most beautiful buildings with its elegant spire, now collapsing. I was there just last month. Sincere condolences to Denmark and the friendly Danish people 🙏 All around the World significant fires keep breaking out. Yesterday was the 5th anniversary of the Notre Dame fire in Paris. #History #FireSafety

Our latest video simulation reveals the importance of green spaces in enhancing urban thermal comfort. Tiergarten Park in Berlin is featured in this innovative study, demonstrating how vegetation significantly cools the surrounding areas, even extending this cooling effect into the night. The simulation highlights hourly surface temperature changes, emphasizing the importance of parks in mitigating the urban heat island effect and making our cities more enjoyable. At ENVI-met, we have analyzed the dynamics of park environments, exploring how different grass types, surface materials, tree species, and water bodies contribute to cooling. This research showcases the potential of sustainable urban planning, highlighting the benefits of green spaces in our cities. Curious to see Tiergarten Park's transformation and its impact on urban comfort? Watch below:
