This World Humanitarian Day, celebrating humanitarian workers is not enough. We need those in power to act now to ensure protection of civilians, including humanitarians, in conflict zones. 2023 was the deadliest year on record for humanitarians. In 2023, 280 humanitarians were killed, most of them were national staff working to help their own communities. 2024 could be even worse. So far this year, more than 170 humanitarians have been killed. At least another 150 have been injured or abducted. To those in power; you committed to protects civilians in war, to protect humanitarian workers, to support the lifeline they provide. It's #WorldHumanitarianDay!!!! Let's take a minute to honor our friends and colleagues who work day-in and day-out to deliver life-saving #humanitarian #assistance to people caught in crises around the world! These men and women go fearlessly into places affected by natural disasters and man-made conflicts. They deliver not only much-needed #aid, but they deliver #hope. It is estimated that more than 300 million people require humanitarian assistance and protection this year due to natural disasters, acute food insecurity, and conflict. Humanitarian workers are vital in responding to all of these crises. They bring food, health care, and shelter to those who are suffering. Their work is dangerous. In fact, 2023 was the deadliest year on record for humanitarians, as 280 aid workers from 33 countries were killed. Sadly, 2024 will end up being even worse. To all aid workers around the world, including those who are members of DACOR and DACOR Bacon House Foundation, a sincere thank you for your courage and dedication.

#WorldHumanitarianDay is a day to honor the courage and dedication of those who work tirelessly to alleviate human suffering in crisis situations around the world. Every year on August 19th, we recognize the efforts of humanitarian workers who risk their lives to provide vital assistance to those in need, often in the most dangerous and challenging conditions. We, our communities, governments and country leaders must do much more to make sure international humanitarian laws are upheld and abided to. Worldwide, 1 in 73 people are living away from their homes because of forcible displacement⚠ This is a number that has doubled in the past decade and 40% of them are children. Last year alone, more than 10 million children were forced to flee their homes in the world’s 10 largest crises, bringing the current number of children displaced to a historic high of over 50 million! Displacement leaves children unable to go to school, without enough to eat, with little access to healthcare, and at risk of abuse and violence as well as in need of psychosocial support.
