Congress recently heard from experts about the ongoing challenges with the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). The miscalculations and errors in processing have been causing daily issues for both students and colleges, with a significant impact on decision day. It is clear that the FAFSA failure is a problem that needs to be addressed. #FAFSA #HigherEducation #StudentAid
The 2024-2025 FAFSA has been a headache for students, parents, and colleges. The root of the issue, the FAFSA delivered to students in December 2023 didn’t simplify the purpose as intended by the FAFSA Simplification Act of 2020.

Academies, many of you know I have been flagging for the last 3 years the inequitable position for Free School Meals. Well this might be your answer to getting more FSM funding. Read on. On 16 July 2019 the Education Committee published a 10 year plan for school and college funding. In there it stated that the Department should consider whether it supports the principle of automatic enrolment for FSM. The report also stated that in 2013 the Department estimated around 160,000 children in England were not claiming FSM (Pupils not claiming Free School Meals 2013) In the DfE response it stated there was no unclaimed pupil premium, as the fund is based on the forecast number of pupils that will claim, not the number of pupils that are eligible! So hats off to Lewisham Council who are paving the way to enable schools to claim their full entitlement. I cannot comment on whether this approach is legal, you will have to make your own assessment on that, but Lewisham Council have gone ahead on this basis. #academies #FSM #freeschoolmeals #academyfunding

Texas Governor Greg Abbott has called for a special legislative session, focusing on Education Savings Funds, also known as vouchers. These vouchers would allow parents to use public funds to pay for private school tuition, homeschooling materials, online school, or private tutors. Supporters argue that vouchers offer parents more choice and control over their child's education, while opponents argue that they would take funding away from public schools, potentially harming underfunded and underperforming schools. Critics also point out that vouchers may not be subject to the same accountability standards as public schools. The proposed voucher program in Texas would provide $8,000 per child per year for private school tuition. However, critics argue that vouchers fail to cover the full cost of private education, and that private schools receiving voucher funds may not be subject to the same accountability standards as public schools. The debate over school vouchers has been ongoing in Texas, with opponents arguing that they would harm public schools and potentially lead to the privatization of education. Supporters argue that vouchers offer parents more choice and control over their child's education. What are your thoughts on school vouchers? Do you believe they are a viable solution to improving education, or do you think they will harm public schools?
