Food rescue is the redirection of good-to-eat food, which is unable to be sold, and would have become food waste, back to human consumption, rather than landfill, compost, animal feed, or other uses. There are many food rescue organisations throughout the country, commonly run by community groups. Food rescue organisations are generally charities, funded by local councils, sponsorship, business partnerships and community grants. More here https://lnkd.in/gZYnK8-P

On #WorldEnvironmentDay we’re highlighting The Oxford Food Hub – an Oxfordshire based food surplus charity that works alongside wholesalers, farmers and growers supporting food banks, warm spaces, homeless shelter, mental health support charities and children’s hospices. Recently celebrating its fifteenth anniversary, the charity is seeking to partner with more farmers and growers in the area as demand continues to soar during the cost of living crisis. The Waste And Resources Action Programme’s 2022 annual survey found that total redistributed food has increased by around 27% compared to 2021, which equates to 70 million more meals redistributed in that year. In fact Oxfordshire NFU Member and third-generation growers Rectory Farm are long-serving suppliers of the Hub. If you have surplus that you wish to donate, then you can reach Oxford Food Hub via email at admin@oxfordfoodhub.org

In a time where communities worldwide are grappling with economic challenges, natural disasters, and other emergencies, the role of businesses in supporting societal causes is paramount. AGS Global Solutions Netherlands (AGS), a leading company renowned for its commitment to social responsibility, has recently showcased its dedication to aiding the local community by collaboratively organizing a project with the Food Bank. The "Voedselbank" has provided several crates where AGS employees can contribute five essential products over a few weeks. These products include long-lasting milk, detergent, sunflower oil, canned ham, and honey. AGS's donation to the Voedselbank serves as a compelling reminder of the positive influence that businesses can exert on communities. It also underscores that each of us has a role to play in supporting the most vulnerable in our society. Whether through financial contributions, food donations, or volunteer work, there are myriad ways in which individuals and businesses can extend assistance. Together, we can make a significant impact and contribute to the battle against hunger and food insecurity. ❤️📦 #donation #relocation #relocationservices #globalmobility #storage

Can someone help me estimate the TRUE cost of this broccoli for our local farmers, community, and environment? The journey of moldy broccoli from Mexico: The broccoli was bought in bulk at a very low cost. It passed through at least four warehouses (Mexico, California, Philadelphia, Northeastern PA) before it was "expected" to fight hunger. 🌍🚛 However, the broccoli did not feed people. The organization sent it to a hog farm. This process steals resources from the food pantry, yet the charitable food system claims the food as served and CO2e saved. It's time to consider the broader impact of the charitable food system and support sustainable, local solutions. 🌱🌽 #FoodDignityMovement #FoodDignity #FoodasPower #SustainableFoodSystem #FoodSustainability #FoodFreedom #FoodEquity #NewSystem #SystemChange #SupportLocalFarmers #responsiblespending

❔❔Did You Know....❔❔ Our donations are made possible because of the food rescue programs larger organizations like Midwest Food Bank manage so that we can feed our community. 🌿 Donated items come in the form of: Close-dated items: Products that are close to their expiration date and don't have enough time to reach store shelves. Overruns: Extra products made beyond what was forecasted, often cheaper to keep the production line running. Mislabeled items: Products with packaging errors, like missing ingredients or allergen information. Relabeling is too costly, but we have the volunteer resources to repack and relabel these items. Damaged or discontinued goods: Items with damaged packaging or products that are no longer sold in stores. -Midwest Food Bank: How Midwest Food Bank and Our Partners Fight Food Waste Together You can donate too! As the cost of living increases, and 1 in 5 in the UK are living in food insecurity, it’s more important than ever that farms donate their surplus crops to charities fighting hunger and tackling food waste. JEPCO has been working with FareShare UK this year, donating lettuces and spring onions. According to FareShare data, our donations equated to 19 tonnes of food, with 1,230 charities benefitting from the surplus crops. Our next goal is to provide the equivalent of 50,000 meals. If you’re able to donate surplus food, please consider speaking to FareShare, especially for Christmas. #donations #charity #Christmascharity #ukproduce #ukfarming

The Delaware Farm Bureau Young Farmers and Ranchers (YF&R) are proudly participating in the nationwide annual Harvest for All campaign! Through this campaign, states compete in several categories including dollars donated, pounds of food collected, and volunteer hours contributed. There are 3 ways you can support YF&R: 1. Donate Food: Delaware's YF&R hosts events, such as the annual Strawberry Festival, where non-perishable food items are collected and donated to the Food Bank of Delaware. You can also donate directly to the Food Bank of Delaware, just be sure to ask them to list the "Delaware Young Farmers & Ranchers" to help us receive credit for pounds of food donated. 2. Donate Funds: Receipts from Redner's Markets can be collected to help us reach our goal! 1% of the receipt total contributes to the amount of funds raised. Send your receipts to the Delaware Farm Bureau state office at 3457 S. Dupont Hwy. Camden, DE 19934, or hand them to your local YF&R member. 3. Donate Time: Already a volunteer in your community? Send a copy of a letter to the Delaware Farm Bureau state office, stating your volunteer time on the organization's letterhead to add to the total volunteer hours spent working in our communities. SBM can help your company serve up hope in the community. We’re proud to work with clients to build and support leftover food donation programs. In nearly every community, there are families facing challenges putting food on the table. According to the USDA, more than 34 million Americans are food insecure. Through our partnerships, we help clients donate leftover food to charitable organizations, turning potential waste into valuable resources for those in need. Many believe that donating food for human consumption exposes organizations to liability. In reality, the Bill Emerson Food Donation Act of 1996 protects organizations that donate both perishable and nonperishable food in good faith. Not only does donating surplus food help connect an organization to the community in which they operate, but it also satisfies a credit under the TRUE Certification for Zero Waste program. For support in establishing donation programs, we guide clients in collaborating with local food banks or food rescue organizations. Read more about how SBM has helped our clients divert waste by donating surplus food in our sustainability report: https://lnkd.in/gUxqKUAV #ZeroWaste #FoodInsecurity
