We congratulate the City of Richmond Hill on becoming the first Frontrunner City in Canada 🇨🇦 to help advocate for the United Nations’ 2030 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) worldwide. This step showcases the City’s commitment to developing more resilient and sustainable communities through innovative and forward-thinking policies and projects. Our Deputy Director, Dr. Manzoor Qadir, and Researcher, Miriam Aczel, Ph.D., joined Mayor David West at the Oak Ridges Community Centre on August 29 to celebrate Richmond Hill’s partnership with the World Urban Pavilion.

In the op-ed I wrote for Eco in Città I highlight some of the main challenges that European cities need to tackle to preserve the transformative power of public spaces - Foster pedestrianization to promote mixed use of streets and squares - Preserve outdoor activities and occupation of public soil for business activities - Widen the networks of bike lanes in cities for sustainable mobility While many cities around Europe are reversing decisions taken during the pandemic emergency, the need for bold strategies preserving the use of public spaces is stronger than ever. Historic England (officially the Historic Buildings and Monuments Commission for England) is an executive non-departmental public body of the British Government sponsored by the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. It is tasked with protecting the historic environment of England by preserving and listing historic buildings, scheduling ancient monuments, registering historic parks and gardens, advising central and local government, and promoting the public’s enjoyment of, and advancing their knowledge of, ancient monuments and historic buildings. Its recently released Historic Environment Overview 2023-24, which reports on how the UK’s heritage sector has fared over the past 12 months. The three themes of Historic England’s Heritage Counts series have also been used throughout this report to identify and highlight some of the positive outcomes achieved across sector activity this year: Heritage and Society, Heritage and the Economy, and Heritage and the Environment. #england #heritage #culturalheritage #sustainability #resiliency #culturaltourism #destinationmanagement Clara Arokiasamy- All views my own Andrew McKean Jonathan Karkut, PhD Helen Lloyd MBE Hazel McGregor Jonathan Rider Graham Bell UK John Darlington John Ward David Holdsworth Simon Woodward Aylin Orbasli Doug Evans Dr Peter Robinson Zikui Xia Hossam Mahdy
