Hellenic Cables announces its first successful project delivery in the burgeoning offshore wind sector of the US, marked by the power-up of the first offshore wind turbine in New York at the South Fork Wind project, which is a significant milestone for the US offshore wind industry, supplying renewable electricity to about 70,000 households. Playing a key role in New York's first offshore wind farm project, Hellenic Cables was responsible for the designing, manufacturing, supplying, testing, and termination of 30 km of 66 kV XLPE-insulated subsea inter-array cables and associated accessories. Apart from providing top-notch services to the growing  US offshore wind sector, Hellenic Cables has a strong project pipeline in this sector, with contracts for the supply of inter-array cables for flagship projects. TOTALENERGIES LAUNCHES FLOATING WIND PILOT FOR NORTH SEA PLATFORM TotalEnergies has unveiled plans to launch a pilot floating wind turbine project to power its Culzean offshore gas platform in the North Sea. The 3 MW turbine, set to be operational by late 2025, will be situated 2 km west of the platform, 220 km off Scotland's eastern coast and aims to supply around 20% of Culzean's power requirement, significantly reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The project utilizes a modular, light semi-submersible floater hull designed by Ocergy, enabling efficient assembly and cost optimization. TotalEnergies has emphasized the project's dual objectives: demonstrating the feasibility of hybrid power generation on offshore facilities and qualifying a promising floater design for future floating offshore wind developments. 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐭𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐚𝐩𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐬 𝐄𝐮𝐫𝐨𝐩𝐞'𝐬 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐟𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐰𝐢𝐧𝐝 𝐟𝐚𝐫𝐦 🙌 Europe is set to get its first commercial scale 560MW floating offshore wind farm after the pioneering Green Volt project received full planning approval from the Scottish Government. The project which is owned 50% each by Aberdeen based Flotation Energy and Vårgrønn will create hundreds of jobs. The wind farm will have up to 35 turbines at a power of 560 MW and has been described as an “essential stepping stone” from current small-scale projects to gigawatt-style developments. The project hopes to position the north east region in becoming the home of future offshore wind jobs. The power and grid-connection supplied through Green Volt will help to provide renewable energy to oil and gas platforms in the surrounding areas, which will replace power currently generated by diesel and gas turbines. It is expected to reduce carbon emissions by one million tonnes per year. This is an incredibly exciting time for our industry and I can't wait to read more about the success as the plans continue. 💡 🧐More than a month has gone by since RVO’s workshop on offshore wind energy in Ede and with these hot summer days come a bit of reflection... 👉 NL has a roadmap towards 21 GW of offshore renewables by 2032. By end of 2023, NL had an installed offshore capacity of 4.7GW >> the roadmap is targeting a five-fold increase in the country’s offshore capacity in less than a decade. Is this actually achievable? Or possibly too ambitious especially given the turbulence in the market?  👉👉Attendance to RVO’s workshop was quite high with 250 participants both in-person and online. What does this indicate? ⚡Interest in offshore wind in NL is high ⚡ Developers see the success stories happening in NL and show trust in the Dutch government’s setup ⚡Possibly, investing in offshore wind in NL is perceived as lower risk, especially given that RVO takes the onus of the large-scale and high monetary investment of offshore studies. 👉👉👉RVO is undertaking a new study into the impact of wake effects on energy yield of offshore wind farms; providing the detailed and cost-intensive insight required to understand the impact of such developments. This further supports developer’s trust in investing in the region. Should other countries follow suit? 👉👉👉👉The workshop has placed emphasis on nature enhancement and ecology in offshore developments, meaning tender evaluation will be placing higher value on not just quantitative but also qualitative considerations. Baltica 2 offshore wind farm: New contract award by Ørsted and PGE Polska Grupa Energetyczna for the installation of wind turbines Congratulations to Fred. Olsen Windcarrier on winning a contract to deploy wind turbines at Poland's 1.5-GW capacity Baltica 2 offshore wind project. The Baltica 2 Offshore Wind Farm is one of the largest offshore wind farms in the Polish Baltic Sea. Baltica 2 received approval from the Polish Energy Regulatory Office (ERO) in 2021 for the first phase of Poland's ambitious offshore wind buildout programme when the project secured the CFD. The contract is awarded by Ørsted and PGE. Baltica 2 is an important milestone in the Polish offshore wind energy sector. The Baltica 2 wind farm will be operational by 2027 and it will offer renewable energy to approximately 2.4 million households in Poland. Paired with Baltica 3, which is scheduled for completion in 2030, it will be the foundation of the 2.5-GW Baltica offshore wind project.
