Professor, Aviation Human Factors at Florida Institute of Technology Director, Florida Tech ATLAS Lab
Florida Tech’s ATLAS Lab is conducting an online study related to battery display concepts for electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) aircraft. The survey, designed to be completed by pilots, takes approximately a half hour and includes 3 scenarios in which you will utilize the display concepts to make aeronautical decisions and then provide feedback on the displays. Your input will play a valuable role in understanding what and how to present battery information to pilots and will be utilized to provide insights to the Advanced Air Mobility Industry. If you are a pilot and have the time, we would really appreciate your help! If you have eVTOL experience or experience flying electric aircraft, click this link to take the study: https://lnkd.in/eAsP7H_2 If you are not familiar with operating eVTOL or electric aircraft, click this link to take the study: https://lnkd.in/edGReSQu We know that your time is valuable, and we appreciate any contribution you can make to help us gain these insights! #evtol #uam #aam #aviationresearch #electricaircraft #pilots

Here’s a simple explanation of how our system works. This is definitely the coolest, and coldest (22K) hardware I’ve had the pleasure to work on! #jobyaviation #h2fly #hydrogenflight
Our landmark 523-mile eVTOL flight with a hydrogen-electric aircraft demonstrates the potential for emissions-free regional aviation, from city center to city center. Check out this video for a bit more detail on how we developed the demonstrator aircraft, leveraging H2FLY's hydrogen fuel cell expertise and Joby's existing technology stack.

Vertical Aerospace (NYSE: EVTL), a leader in zero-emissions aviation, has announced the commencement of testing for its most advanced eVTOL aircraft, unveiled last week. The initial phase, featuring powered ground tests and propeller balancing, has been successfully completed. The propeller balancing tests, which are crucial for minimizing vibrations and ensuring smooth, stable flight, were completed with positive results. The next phase will involve powered propulsion system tests at Vertical's state-of-the-art Vertical Energy Centre. These tests will evaluate the performance of proprietary battery packs capable of delivering 1.4 MW of peak power and will be conducted under certification safety standards. During these tests, the VX4 will be securely anchored to measure thrust output, assess system integration, and ensure structural integrity. These procedures are essential for meeting operational safety standards required for piloted flights. Following these tests, the VX4 will progress to “wheels up” tethered flights and low-speed untethered flights, pending a Permit to Fly from the UK Civil Aviation Authority (CAA). David King, Chief Engineer at Vertical Aerospace, commented, “These tests are a crucial step forward in our mission to certify the VX4 and realize a cleaner, quieter, and safer mode of air mobility. Our team’s progress at the Flight Test Centre continues to provide invaluable insights. We are eager to advance towards piloted flights and are proud of the strides we are making.” As the aerospace community gathers at the Farnborough International / Farnborough Airshow, Vertical Aerospace looks forward to sharing further developments in their journey toward advanced air mobility. New Horizon Aircraft (@newhorizonaircraft), a Toronto-based aerospace company, is making strides in the development of its hybrid-electric Vertical Take-Off and Landing (eVTOL) aircraft, the Cavorite X7. With its patented HOVR wing system, the aircraft can take off vertically and transition to a conventional airplane configuration during flight, reaching speeds of 250 miles per hour and a range of over 500 miles. The company has been conducting extensive flight tests on its large-scale prototype, with results surpassing expectations. New Horizon is also innovating its proprietary technologies, including full-scale propulsion units and the HOVR wing design, which enables safer and more durable performance in challenging conditions. 'Our unique, customer-first approach prioritizes building a tough eVTOL aircraft that can operate in bad weather, icing conditions and other challenging operational environments. This strategy is gaining strong traction with operators, driving substantial demand,' said Horizon Aircraft CEO Brandon Robinson. As a publicly traded small-cap company (NASDAQ: #hovr), New Horizon could benefit from the expected rotation in equity markets into small-cap stocks with sustainable technologies. The company's recent global poll of investment managers revealed a strong demand for exposure to these asset classes. With its innovative hybrid-electric eVTOL technology, New Horizon Aircraft aims to disrupt the travel industry and potentially serve various use cases, including medical evacuation, critical supply delivery, and special military missions. Great article on the Forbes by Mike Hirschberg of the Vertical Flight Society! Indeed, we are seeing a convergence towards a dominant design in eVTOL, namely the vectored-thrust configuration. Think the tilt-rotors, tilt-fans of the world. And this is not only driven by performance requirements, but VC momentum flowing into these designs. In fact, $5B out of the $8B that has gone into pax eVTOL is vectored-thrust.
I post monthly ruminations on Forbes.com about electric vertical takeoff and landing (#eVTOL) aircraft — how we got here and where we're going. Check out my latest about "A Thousand Splendid eVTOL Designs". We have been tracking designs since before the "Cambrian explosion" of eVTOL ideas seven years ago. We recently crossed 1,000 designs — "everything from the silly to the serious!" Is this a good thing? What does this mean? You tell me! ;-) https://lnkd.in/eRiu-Run #aam #electricVTOL #VTOL #verticalflight #electricaircraft #electricFlight #VSTOL #VSTOLwheel

Of course this FCE-VTOL will include a companion battery. Will it be a high-durability battery or will it be low-durability/lightweight battery?
