While the weekend is just around the corner, at KMC we are already looking forward to the beginning of next week – and with good reason, as we’re kicking off the week by inaugurating our brand-new Innovation Center, Monday 17th. The opening of the Innovation Center, which will be attended by – among others – the Minister of Food, Agriculture and Fisheries, Jacob Jensen (V) and CEO of Landbrug & Fødevarer, Merete Juhl, marks a new chapter for KMC and our efforts as a global supplier of sustainable ingredients. With more than 5.000 square-meters dedicated to research and innovation centered around the possibilities within our potatoes, the Innovation Center will greatly benefit our customers and their products as well as KMC. The new structure contains a pilot hall which allows us to elevate our activity levels. It gives us improved facilities for running experiments in collaboration with our customers and developing new solutions for the market. However, the Innovation Center isn’t the only major KMC-event happening this Monday. We’re also hosting the first edition of a new conference for plant-based foods titled #plantebaseret2024. At the conference experts and stakeholders from NGO’s, policy institutes and universities will debate the possibilities for plant-based food production in the future as well as the politics surrounding a possible, future CO2-tax. To sum up, a Monday packed with celebration and sharing of knowledge – all centered around the humble, yet powerful potato. #PlantBasedFuture #Sustainability #PotatoPower

And in the end, I hold in my hands this work, certainly improvable, but built with love and patience. Master's Degree in Administration and Public Policy - Innovation in policy instruments for the sustainability of local food systems through Payments for Ecosystem Services Abstract Given the intricate interconnections among agrifood systems, ecosystems, human beings, and anthropogenic activities, ensuring the sustainability of food supply chains emerges as a priority within international, European, and national policy frameworks. Concurrently, the market for plant-based proteins is steadily growing in Europe, underscoring the strategic importance of this sector, especially in terms of diversifying agricultural production in Liguria. Against this backdrop, this study provides a critical examination of the integration of Payments for Ecosystem Services (PES) into local development strategies to enhance sustainability of agrifood systems through the valorization of traditional and underutilized legumes in the Ligurian region, potentially yielding positive impacts on agricultural income, biodiversity, the provision of ecosystem services, the valorization of local traditions, and, ultimately, fostering cohesion between rural and urban areas. Employing the methodology by Cavalletti et al. (2023) and incorporating strategies, policies, policy instruments, and practices, this research endeavors to (i) verify the scientific underpinnings of PES; (ii) assess the presence of positive externalities; (iii) outline the policy framework and identify experimental sites; and (iv) speculate on potential funding sources. Through a critical evaluation of the CSR Liguria's initiatives, the study highlights synergistic interventions for the establishment of PES and identifies three legume crops as candidates for experimentation (White Bean of Pigna, Conio, and Badalucco; Moco from the Bormida Valleys; and Bean of Pignone). Given the multidimensionality of the subject, the research emphasizes that PES should be embedded within a comprehensive policy ecosystem. This approach extends beyond solely relying on consumer behavior to achieve food sustainability, underscoring the pivotal role of the State as an Investor in GPP, particularly concerning the realm of canteens. I'm an IB student at The Hague University, I'm in my last year of university and currently conducting a survey on Dutch consumer preferences and behaviors towards sustainably sourced candy, particularly focusing on Winegum for my thesis research. This survey aims to gain more insights into whether Dutch consumers are willing to pay more for winegum made with sustainably sourced sugar, cultivated through regenerative agriculture farming methods. These methods significantly contribute to enhancing soil health, water retention, and reducing CO2 footprints, etc. The aim of my thesis survey is to delve deeper into consumer preferences and willingness to pay for candies produced with sustainably sourced sugar. This survey will only take 2-3 minutes of your time but will provide valuable insights for my research. It's highly appreciated if you could spend a few minutes to help me fill in the survey share it to your network and you will have a chance to win a mystery candy box! Link to the survey: https://lnkd.in/epMBx6Nt You can participate in the survey up to and including 1 April 2024. So be quick! 😉 Thank you in advance for your help! #SustainableCandy #TheHagueUniversity #ThesisResearch #Sustainability

I recently had the honor of presenting at the MSSRF annual conference 2024, an incredible event focused on the vision of a "Hunger Free World" inspired by the late Prof. M S Swaminathan’s dream of an Evergreen Revolution. My presentation, titled “Securing Food: From Green Revolution to Precision and Sustainability,” explored the major challenges and solutions in modern agriculture. We are confronting significant global challenges, including a rapidly growing population, rising food consumption, shrinking arable land, and water scarcity. These issues demand urgent and innovative responses. In my talk, I drew on the Israeli experience from the 60s, demonstrating how Israel transformed similar obstacles into opportunities with groundbreaking agricultural solutions. This historical perspective offers valuable lessons for addressing today's pressing global issues. As we move beyond the Green Revolution, which focused on increasing yields through traditional practices that often harmed the environment, it is clear that a new approach is needed. Precision plant nutrition and sustainable practices are essential for ensuring food security while preserving our planet for future generations. In this context, advancements in farm management and data-based solutions are revolutionizing agriculture. By leveraging science to maximize yield, we can achieve more with fewer resources, ensuring both productivity and sustainability. At Haifa Group, we are at the forefront of this transformation. We actively develop highly effective solutions and technologies for sustainable agriculture and precision plant nutrition. By focusing on nutrient use efficiency, we maximize positive and precise impacts, safeguard the planet’s health, ensure food security, and foster a thriving humanity. The conference was a fantastic opportunity to share these insights and learn from others. It also aligns with our broader goal of investing in India and Asia Pacific regions and spreading our solutions globally.
