As we approach the United Nations High-Level Meeting on Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR), the urgency to address this global health threat has never been clearer. The zero draft of the political declaration targets a 10% reduction in global deaths caused by bacterial AMR by 2030, using 2019 as a baseline. Dr. Jean Kaseya of Africa CDC revealed the dire situation in Africa, where only 1.3% of labs can perform bacterial resistance testing, leading to underreported data. Despite efforts by the African Union Assembly to control AMR, less than 10% of member states have fully funded national action plans. Professor Sally Davies, UK Special Envoy on AMR, stressed the importance of addressing the needs of the most vulnerable communities and ensuring equitable access to antibiotics and diagnostics for low- and middle-income countries. It's imperative that global leaders and organizations collaborate to implement these measures and secure a healthier future for all. #AntimicrobialResistance #GlobalHealth #AMR #SustainableHealth #PublicHealth #WHA #GlobalLeadersGroup World Health Organization The Global Fund FAO United Nations Environment Programme Finance Initiative (UNEP FI)
