Weekend Report: Felixstowe Coast Patrol and Rescue Another busy weekend for the Felixstowe Coast Patrol and Rescue team as we responded to critical situations on the water, ensuring the safety of those in need. Here’s a summary of our activities: Saturday Key Events: We responded to a mayday call from a vessel with a crew member having breathing difficulties. Despite very challenging conditions, we reached the yacht within 10 minutes. Due to the conditions and proximity to Harwich, it was deemed best not to transfer the casualty to our lifeboat, Last Orders, so along with Harwich Haven Authority we shadowed them to Ha’penny Pier, then proceeded to provide medical attention until we could hand over to the ambulance service. We're happy to report that the casualty started to feel better while we were with them, and we wish them a speedy recovery. Sunday Key Events: We assisted a yacht that had experienced engine failure. Our team arrived on the scene, secured a towline, and safely navigated the vessel into Suffolk Yacht Harbour ensuring both the crew and yacht were brought back without further incident. 10 years ago today (3 Sept 2014) I did this 👇👇 I can hardly believe it myself, especially as I am so scared of heights. ❓So what made me do it? Well yes it was for charity ( RAF Association). THAT gave me extra mojo to stick to the challenge But also I wanted to face my fears head on. Something like 97% of all the worrying we do is about things that will NEVER happen. Thankfully that was proved correct here too !! 😂 ❓What did I learn from the experience that has helped me since? ⭐️Stepping outside your comfort zone is where you really grow as a person ⭐️Get the right people around you - you don’t need to go it alone . I chose very carefully for the skydive & jumped with the RAF Falcons (parachute display team) ⭐️The first leap/step is the hardest and then take it one step at a time ⭐️ Life goes by in a flash - so its good to slow down sometimes and take time to enjoy it, in the moment. ⭐️Sometimes we do just need to feel the fear (our body’s way of wanting to keep us safe) and do it anyway. Divergent Yachting is a small business operating out of a small office in the middle of 'Narnia' aka The New Forest, yet they are responsible for hundreds if not thousands of peoples jobs and livelihoods all around the world by managing only a handful of yachts. Why Thoroughbred ex-racehorses? Here at Horse Aid we started out working with a variety of different horses. And then we gravitated in the early days towards Thoroughbred ex-racehorses. Firstly the sensitivity of the Thoroughbred breed translates to intelligence and they quickly respond to ground work retraining and secondly leaving the racing career has a range of similarities to participants with post-traumatic stress injuries after leaving their serving careers. I did a thing. At Paddy & Scott's, we are constantly pushed to take risks at our leadership team meetings to step out of our comfort zones. So when the incredible Little Lifts team asked me to join their sponsored skydive for charity, despite my extreme fear of heights, I couldn’t say no. For months, I agonized over everything that could go wrong and questioned my decision. But yesterday, it all came together. I jumped out of a plane at 13,000 feet for a fantastic cause. I wasn’t alone—six fellow Little Lifts jumpers joined, and everyone nailed it. This experience taught me a lot. First, taking risks is crucial. Without risks, there’s no opportunity to overcome challenges. The biggest lesson? The power of SUPPORT and TEAMWORK. I arrived at the airfield, nerves in full swing, with my amazing family supporting me. To my surprise, Jonathan Reed and Zoe Hill, our company owners, were there too, cheering me on. Would I have signed up if it wasn’t for Little Lifts? NO. Would I have gone through with it without the amazing support from my family, friends, and colleagues? Maybe not, but their support made all the difference. One of the best experiences of my life. I encourage everyone to take a risk.
