Got a litter issue in your area? 😵 We've got solutions for that ✅ Today we launch our new Neat Streets toolkit, thanks to funding from McDonald's. It’s been designed for local authorities and community groups who work tirelessly to keep our neighbourhoods clean – we like to think of them as ‘bin-thusiasts’. Building on our previous #InTheLoop toolkit for recycling on-the-go, the new site brings together all the best bits from 10 years of experimenting to tackle litter. Grab your (bin)oculars and load up www.neatstreets.org.uk to find: - Free, downloadable campaigns targeted towards specific issues including roadside litter, cigarette butt litter and our #InTheLoop recycling on-the-go campaign. - Advice on how to get the most bang from your bin, and campaign resources, with step-by-step guidance on running a litter campaign. - A collection of over 15 case studies to provide actionable tips and inspire your own campaigns. And that's not all, we have a new grant fund offering £10,000 funding to local authorities who would like to introduce one of the campaigns in their area. Have you ever had a serendipitous moment in your professional life? This week, the Trash Scouts got to receive lots of brand new Toter carts that we will be using for one of our customers. I spent 5 years with WM learning how to collect and dispose of waste, then 8 years with Toter, providing the containers that collect and move the waste, now at Trash Scouts, I get to see all this come together at this serendipitous moment. A whoosh of wind and a clatter of metal announced the arrival of Captain Re-Cycle, landing heroically between the crumpled aluminum can and the squished plastic bottle. The can, wide-eyed with fear, stammered, "R-recycling emergency? Does that mean...more flattening?" Captain Re-Cycle, a beacon of green and blue, chuckled. "Don't worry, Can-Do! It's not so bad for you. When it comes to residents and recycling, have you ever had to go dumpster diving? So far that's one suggestion the community has for Josh who is having trouble with residents putting non-recyclables in the recycling bins: https://lnkd.in/gWQGj2z6 Josh's main concern is that once the recycling has been "contaminated," the truckload goes to the dump and not the recycling yard. Yikes! We can see why he wants this issue resolved! One great suggestion has been to host a "green" resident event with local authorities to teach about recycling. Aside from passing along charges to the residents, what other suggestions do you have for Josh? Would a sign that lists out the types of materials that can be recycled be helpful? If you've ever been in this position, what did you do?

Imagine a cleaner, greener coastline where discarded fishing nets, ropes, and buoys don’t harm our marine life. Wales is making this vision a reality as the first UK nation to roll out a fishing gear recycling scheme. On Global Recycling Day, we collected an impressive ten tonnes of gear from seven harbours along our stunning coast. These nets, ropes, and buoys, which could otherwise end up in the sea or landfill, will now be shredded and repurposed into kayaks, bodyboards, and street furniture. Fishing gear accounts for up to 20% of all litter in our oceans. In Wales, fishing ropes were the third most commonly found item in last year’s Great British Beach Clean survey. By recycling fishing gear, we’re not only protecting our marine environment but also reducing litter. Together, we can create a real circular economy, where we recycle, reuse, and safeguard our planet.
